Learning Curve Brands Super Why - Touch and Learn Super Duper Computer Review

Learning Curve Brands Super Why - Touch and Learn Super Duper Computer

I bought this for my 3.5 year old son for Christmas as he loves Superwhy and asked for a Superwhy computer. Seemed like it would be a great toy to reinforce learning from the show.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend because
1) the sound quality is so bad it's really hard for my son and any adult to understand what letter sounds they are asking for; therefore it is frustrating for my son to learn as neither he or I can get the answers right
2) the graphics are really low budget and it is hard to distinguish the V from a Y for example
3) you are supposed to use the why writer and touch the screen but you have to touch the screen perfectly for it to respond so my son ends up tapping on the screen a half dozen times to get it to respond
4) keypad letters are also hard to push and have to get it just right for the computer to respond
5) the superwhy theme song plays in the background the entire time and it will drive you up the wall if your kid is playing for even 5 minutes (just think what 20 minutes of the song will do to any sane adult
6) it takes a long time for the computer to register your answer and respond if you get it right or wrong that the pace of the game will drive any quick or active child to look for something else to do.
The good qualities are that it is superwhy so it had recognition points from my son and he is willing to put up with the poor quality just to see his characters on the screen and this toy seems really durable.
Maybe I got a lemon, but I don't think so. For the price, I expected better. There are much better computers out there with better graphics, sounds and learning games for about half the price but aren't licensed SuperWhy. Bummed when I saw a computer at Target for literally more than half off. Bought that computer and am giving it to my son for his fourth birthday to replace this one.

Learning Resources Match and Spell Word Puzzle Cards, 3-Letter Spelling Puzzle Cards Review

Learning Resources Match and Spell Word Puzzle Cards, 3-Letter Spelling Puzzle Cards
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 2.5 yr old son loves his "words" puzzles. So I bought these. They are double sided and he choses whether to do the "red side" or the "blue side".
But we also have the same sort of puzzle idea from Carson Dellosa and they are SOOO much better. They are NOT double sided, but the pictures are nicer, the letters are CAPITAL, not lower case, and the pieces can NOT be used with other pieces. They are all cut to fit together with only the other pieces of the SAME word. It's great. Carson-Dellosa products rock. Check them out, they are much much better quality too, and larger.
My son is now over 3 and still loves putting the words together with the Carson Dellosa puzzles, he hasn't touched these in months. If I pull them out, he says, "No momma, the other words!" that says it all!

University Games Super Why ABC Letter Preschool Game Review

University Games Super Why ABC Letter Preschool Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

My 30mth old loves this game. A little long to play at his age, but it is designed for a little older age range. The four decks of cards are designed to increase literacy skills. If you draw an Alpha Pig card, you match the lower case letter on the card to the upper case letter on the board, Princess Presto cards you find the letter that the picture starts with. The last two sets of cards are a bit further along in development then he is(game is for 3+ by design), but that only means the game has room to grow with him. Wonder Red cards you need to rhyme with the words on the card, and Super Why cards, you replace the silly word with what makes sense. My husband and I assist him a lot if he lands on the last two set of cards. My son does not seem to mind and I love how educational and fun this game is. I love the great way to reinforce learned skills and introduce new ones. The best is he does not mind to wait his turn. This game not only would benefit the preschool crowd, but even K-1 remediation skills for those with delays or lack of prior exposure. I am buying a copy for my classroom for the literacy center.

Goodnight Moon Game Review

Goodnight Moon Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Goodnight Moon board game is pretty, artwork appealing to children who love the Goodnight Moon book. The game is not expensive, and is developmentally appropriate for pre-reading children, helping in developing visual skills. My two year old granddaughter likes it, and quickly learned the principle of "taking turns" as we completed matching small cards to the large picture cards. The game, although fun for a very young child, is fairly limited. Older children will probably not be very interested in it, once they are able to read, other games will be more fun.

The matching skills required for each card that comes with this game varies a lot, so this toy can be enjoyed for several years. The bear raises his flag using magnets, so no batteries required. My daughter loves when she gets the correct answer and the bear raises his flag.

My 3 1/2 year old son loves to play this game at his preschool. The teacher let's three of them play this before it's time for them to go home, while other children staying longer are off doing something else. He says this is his favorite game to play and he says, mommy, I really like color shapes bingo, It's FUN!! I think this game is normally purchased at the Parent Teacher stores, as I have not seen it at your bigger dept. stores.
