(More customer reviews)I got this because my four-year old kept playing with the "real" one that I have in my toolbox. He plays with this toy every now and again (he's not as enamored with it as he is with mine), but mostly it just sits in his playroom. My guess is that if it had a self-retracting mechanism he would play with/use it a lot more. This toy requires the child to wind it up after each measure (a process that isn't always smooth due to the flexible plastic material that comprises the tape itself) - probably good for learning some fine motor skills, but I think my child's interest would be held longer if he could watch the tape retract by itself with a push of a button.
