Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Doorbell House Review

I purchased this toy based on my past experiences with the wonderful quality of Melissa & Doug products--also the fact that my 3 year-old son sat on the floor of the toystore and played with this (w/o batteries) for over a 1/2 hour! He is not the type of child to beg for a toy, but he didn't want to leave this one behind.
We bought it, got the batteries in, and he has been playing with it ever since. However, just hours after playing with it, the locks started falling out of the doors. They pop back on easily, but he can't do it himself. Also, now I have to worry about the pieces getting lost.
I'm really surprised at the shoddy quality of the locks and the doors (you have to pull them open with your thumb--making it easier for the locks to snap out of place). For the price of this toy (I spent $33 on it at a novelty toy shop) it should be sturdier. Since we purchased this on vacation at a resort town, I am unable to return it. I also know my son would be heartbroken if I took it back.
I plan on contacting Melissa & Doug regarding this. I hope they can help out b/c we have been huge fans of their products for years!

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Latches Board Review

My two year old loves this! My kiddo is dexterous like you wouldn't believe, and has a passion for opening and closing doors as well as removing covers and lids (electrical socket safety plugs, the backs of remotes, change purses, bottle tops, baby wipes) and opening clasps (wallet, watches, bracelets). If your child is the type who's always looking for new and exciting ways to raise your blood pressure with feats of exquisite motor control, this latchboard is a great way to redirect that energy and curiousity.
I remember reading some horrified parent exclaim that perhaps teaching young kids to open latches and locks is a dangerous idea, but realistically speaking - the latches featured here probably aren't used in a safety capacity anyway. (Unless you hide your dynamite behind a miniature chain locked door. And you might want to rethink that.)
The thing is also virtually indestructable. I can say this with confidence because it was "tested" by the brats next door, and those boys could destroy a padded cell. The colors and pictures are bright and appealing, too; it's remarkably well made.
My only beef is the cost of Melissa and Doug products, but since it's hand made I can understand why it's necessary. Keep up the fine work, guys.

Snakey Skill Building Puppet by Pockets of Learning Review

As an Occupational Therapist, I use this toy frequently to teach dressing skills to the children with whom I work. They have so much fun piecing the snake together that they forget they are learning to manipulate fasteners in the process. The head of the snake is a hand puppet, and the soft, colorful body pieces are both large and durable, making them easier to manipulate. My elementary school-aged children of all ages request "Snakey" again and again. This educational toy is definetly worth the money!
