(More customer reviews)Fuzzoodles didn't seem like much fun when I looked over the box in stores a few months ago, but when my daughter got to try them out with my sisters recently, she had a blast making her own monsters. Of course I gave in and ordered this set as a result. It's a heck of a lot cheaper on Amazon than it is in stores, of course, and it looked like it came with a good amount of parts to make your own monsters with. After opening the box, I'm glad I didn't pay more than what I did for this kit, as it doesn't have a ton of different pieces by any means...but was it still fun? Yeah, to an extent. But I'll tell you right now that you're better off getting two different kits in order to get more out of this idea. People who have experience making sock puppets with pipe cleaners as horns, antennas or whatever will have no trouble making creatures here, but those new to it might end up breaking the pieces shortly after taking them out of the box.
Simply put, the main body pieces for the Fuzzoodles are just over-sized pipe cleaners. They're not short feather boa like a few pictures make it seem, and the fuzz on them isn't that long, like the illustration on the box might lead you to believe. They're as durable as regular pipe cleaners, and can take a good number of extreme bends before being at risk of breaking. You also get a couple of different mouths, eyes, ears, feet and hands. But like the product details on this page says, you only get 10 pieces in the box for body parts. Yep, 10 total. So much for this being a 'large' construction kit huh? There are also 10 of the Fuzzoodle pipe cleaner pieces (which I guess are supposed to be the Fuzzoodles themselves). Last, there's a booklet with some creature creation ideas if you somehow can't think of anything to make on your own.
It's simple to make these guys, even if you don't have experience making things like this. You'll have to twist the pipe cleaners in order to get the body parts on, since they have little hooks to go on the Fuzzoodles. If you just make an upside down U shape, there piece will just slide off, so you need to have a more solid area. 'hard to really explain here, but you'll get it when you try it out. To me, the pieces stayed on without any problems, and getting them on was easy. You just need to make sure you don't twist the Fuzzoodles too tightly. The best creations my daughter and I made were ones that used up most of the Fuzzoodles just to make one monster with four legs. These would also make for some great holiday decorations, be it things to hang from the ceiling on Halloween, or ornaments for Jesusmas.
Overall, this is a pretty fun product, but it needs to come with more, especially when you look at the original retail price. But at the moment, it's a good deal. I have to stress that you're better off getting this and another different kit though, so you'll have more pieces to work with. I like this since it helps kids with learning to make their own creations by using their imaginations, and would be a good introduction to making puppets. While the box says ages 5 and up, kids 3-4 shouldn't have any trouble making a cool monster. 'just too bad it didn't come with a few extra things like feathers, pom pom balls or something else.
