Hi Ho Cherry-O Book Series Review

I got this for my daughter when she was 3 and she enjoys it till today [almost 4]. The rules are simple and easy to follow, and for a preschooler, doesn't require any reading skills or long attention span. The cherries are small, so there is a choking hazard for those under 3. But this game has educational value too - placing the cherries on the trees refines motor skills, and there is counting involved [1-10], and parents can also teach mathematical concepts such as addition and subtraction to those children who are eager/willing to learn.
The game's premise is simple - the first player to fill his/her bucket with 10 cherries wins the game. But there are setbacks [making it more fun] - if the arrow lands on a dog/bird, two cherries need to put back on the tree, and if the arrow lands on a picture of a spilled basket, then all the cherries need to be returned from the bucket to the tree. This helps teach patience to young children and also taking turns.
All in all, an excellent educational and fun board game for preschoolers!

Hi Ho Cherry-O Review

Our 3-yr old received this game as a gift and thoroughly enjoys it. It is a terrific way for kids to understand how to play board-type games; taking turns, setbacks, etc. The basic game simply has each player remove the number of cherries spun on the spinner. However, there are some "bad" spins that force you to put cherries back on the tree. At first, kids are disappointed to move backwards - but over time, they get the idea that sometimes this happens in games. We use it as a way to start teaching basic math. "If you have 8 cherries and get to take away 2, how many will be left on the tree?" The little cherry buckets are definitely made for kids hands and fingers - they are tough to maneuver for an adult. Small price to pay for a simple to understand, terrific little game.

For over 30 years, Hi Ho! Cherry-O has delighted children and parents with its simple-yet-fun introduction to counting. Children try to be first to pick their trees clean, filling their buckets with cherries. Just watch out for the dog, the bird, and the spilled bucket! Colors and parts may vary. No reading required. Includes gameboard, four cherry buckets and 40 plastic cherries.
For 2 to 4 players.
