Chutes & Ladders Book Series Review

Chutes and Ladders Book Series
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just recently purchased this game for my almost 4 year-old, and I find that she does not enjoy it as much as "Zingo" and "Hi-Ho Cherry-O". Part of the reason is because this game runs longer than the other board games we have. It takes a while to get from 1 to 100, and her attention span does not last the length of the game! What I do like about the game is that reinforces the teaching of numbers [1-100] and also counting. Obviously, the game teaches patience, taking turns and coping with setbacks as well.
All in all, this is a fun and educational board game but if you're purchasing it for those who are preschoolers and below, it may not be as fun for them due to the length of the game. Also, this is a smaller, travel version [comes in a book-shaped case] and the board folds up, so if you buy this for a younger child, you may want to set up the game and fold up the board afterwards to prevent it from being ripped apart.

ThinkFun Zingo Review

ThinkFun Zingo
Average Reviews:

I bought this game for my children several years ago on the advice of the owner of my favorite toy store. I love board games, and my children were 3 and 5 then, and just starting to enjoy them as well. Well, we couldn't get the kids to stop playing Zingo. They played quietly for more than 2 hours. Since you can play with up to 8 players, we have had lots of neighborhood kids playing the game out on the front steps. Since then, I have bought at least 10 Zingo games -- I have given them to all my children's friends and I always keep a few around to give out for birthday gifts. Everyone loves this game.

My 4 year played this game with her speech therapist and loved it. It is an older game so I was excited to find it. She was so happy to get it for Christmas and wants to play it every day! We play it by picking an object from the bag and then describing it to other player(s) who then guess what the object is. Good for developing language arts skills.

Candy Land Castle Game Review

Candy Land Castle Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a good beginner board game so we could start family game night with our 3 year old and this game is great. It is very simple and does not take too long to play a round: pull the lever and one piece shoots out of the castle (fun) and if it matches your game board you keep it and if not you put it back in the castle top. Great first game, box says 3+ but 2 year olds could easily play this game with supervision. I think it is a bit overpriced, but there is not really a great selection of easy beginner games available. (We have the Lucky Ducks game - fun but noisy! And we have Hi Ho Cherry-O - fun but 40 tiny plastic cherries!)

Purchased this for a 5 year old who is beginning to read and spell...great item, especially for kids with some imagination/creativity...child (with some initial help) quickly realized that if you simply start with a consonant and then a vowel, suddenly lots of three and four letter words start appearing...child enjoyed rearranging rings to spell lots of different words.

Chutes and Ladders Review

Chutes and Ladders
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We ordered Chutes and Ladders for our four year old. He enjoys the game, but there are a few things that we don't like.
1.The child needs to be able to visually recognize the numbers 1-100, so that they know where to move. If your child, like ours, can't do this yet it becomes frustrating with having always to tell them where to move. It feels like you are playing for them. So, we play lots more Candy Land that Chutes and Ladders. So, this game probably isn't good for preschool children - unless you are willing to give them considerable help (which means no games played among just the children themselves).
2.The game pieces are made of cardboard that fits into little plastic stands. After several times of putting the cardboard into the stand the cardboad becomes compressed and will no longer stay in the stand. So, you will need to try to leave the stands on all the time, or you'll have to glue the pieces into the stands. Considering how classic a game this is and that families will play it for generations and hand it down, it would have been nice if they could have come up with better pieces (like the nice plastic pieces in Candy Land's anniversary edition).
3.In the last row of game play there are three chutes with only a couple of spaces separating them, which makes it VERY difficult for anyone to win and the game to be over. This gets annoying after a while and frustrating to little people.
So, we like this game, but it isn't our favorite. Be aware of your child's ability to recognize numbers and handle game frustration.

This delightful game is simple and easy to play, even for children who can't read. Fun pictures help kids understand the rewards of doing good deeds as they climb up the ladders-and the consequences of naughty ones as they slide down the chutes. For 2 to 4 players. Game includes: game board, spinner with plastic arrow and 4 pawns with plastic stands.

LeapFrog? Leapster L-Max? Game: Letters on the Loose Review

LeapFrog? Leapster L-Max? Game: Letters on the Loose
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to use on my regular Leapster and it worked just fine. My 4 year old son is learning to write letters in his Pre-K class and this just excited him beyond belief. He sits there for hours tracing those letters and he is so proud of himself when he is done!!! I am amazed because my son usually NEVER sits still unless he's watching TV. This has replaced our watch TV before you go to bed time...now he gets in bed and draws his letters.
The most important thing about this is it teaches them to draw their letters CORRRECTLY. Start at the top and go down...etc. All educational experts Iv'e talked with say that it is essential to get then doing it right. PLUS, unlike the letter factory (which I loved) it also teaches lowercase letters which I have come to find out that those are what they need in Pre-K and K.
Thank you Leapfrog for encouraging my son to enthusiastically learn and challenge himself.

Hi Ho Cherry-O Book Series Review

Hi Ho Cherry-O Book Series
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for my daughter when she was 3 and she enjoys it till today [almost 4]. The rules are simple and easy to follow, and for a preschooler, doesn't require any reading skills or long attention span. The cherries are small, so there is a choking hazard for those under 3. But this game has educational value too - placing the cherries on the trees refines motor skills, and there is counting involved [1-10], and parents can also teach mathematical concepts such as addition and subtraction to those children who are eager/willing to learn.
The game's premise is simple - the first player to fill his/her bucket with 10 cherries wins the game. But there are setbacks [making it more fun] - if the arrow lands on a dog/bird, two cherries need to put back on the tree, and if the arrow lands on a picture of a spilled basket, then all the cherries need to be returned from the bucket to the tree. This helps teach patience to young children and also taking turns.
All in all, an excellent educational and fun board game for preschoolers!

Old MacDonald had a farm by Hasbro Review

Old MacDonald had a farm by Hasbro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my 3 yr. old daughter who is autistic. As many parents of autistic kids know, reaching a child that "lives in their own world" and has little attention span is a major challenge. This toy grabs her attention and she picked up how to play with it immediately. When she asks to play with it, she asks for "Farmer". She asks for it a lot and plays with it for long periods of time. She has even started to sing along with the farmer! I am so happy with this toy. The other reviews on this item are right on for kids in general. I want to speak for handicapped children like my daughter. It is a difficult thing to guess what is appropriate and what won't be such a good idea. I hope this helps you shoppers out there that have a special person of your own to shop for.

I bought this for a first grade class. I have the WINGO short vowel version and it is such a big hit, I knew I had to get the long vowel version too. The kids will choose to play short vowel version even during recess! I have not played this long vowel version yet; the kids aren't ready for it. I came with the same durable bag to hold all the tiles, a spinner, and boards. The box is well made too. Definitely a great buy!

Rummikub Review

Rummikub
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is deceptively simple. You start with 14 tiles, and your goal is to meld all your tiles in groups of at least three, either three of a kind (3 fives, for example) or in a run (4, 5, and 6). Just like the card game rummy, right? The twist comes when you start rearranging tiles. As long as you leave at least three tiles together, you can do whatever you want with the tiles already laid down by any person playing the game. Before too long, strategy becomes hard because the person before you is sure to rearrange the tiles you needed in such a way that they are no longer available. Then again, they may lay down the one piece that you needed to win.
I've been playing this game with my family for years. It's a blast because it's so completely different every time, and everyone has a chance to win. You might need to help small kids when they first learn how to play, but soon, they will be able to play and hold their own against adults.
I highly recommend this fun game. It'll give you hours of entertainment with family and friends.

Rummikub is played with a set of 106 elegant tiles that are as durable as they are easy to handle. Like Rummy, players build melds of run of the same colors - Red 7, Red 8 and Red 9 - or sets of the same numbers - Blue 8, Red 8 and Black 8. If you're looking for a fast action game where the outcome is undecided until the last play and has a never-ending variety of strategies and play situations, you'll love Rummikub! For 2 to 4 players. Leapfrog Clickstart Educational Software: Learning Carnival
Average Reviews:

We purchased this game to go with our clickstart. My 4 yr old played it. The game takes the next level from the games built into the console. My daughter loves the fun house game. It has three levels and you have to beat level a to get to level b and level b to get to level c. It gives them a challenge once they have aced the built in games. It keeps track of your time and you can try and beat your best time. The game has you go up latter's, down slides and latter's, jump from the ground to platforms, walk left and right. It is great for learning letters. There is also a bubble popping game that is the next level from the console game. It asks you to pop a specific bubble by letter. This is a great addition to the console games. It is more challenging and once your child masters the beginning games it gives them more challenging games to go onto to.

I bought this for my 10-year-old homeschooled son to provide him with another challenging logic puzzle. He enjoys it very much, and it gives some variation to the other puzzle he greatly enjoys, Rush Hour. My 17-year-old son recently sat down to work on it too. It seems well suited to 9-12 year olds, but older and younger kids have shown interest in it as well. My recommendation is to leave this and other puzzles (including jigsaw) out where kids can get at them any time. I've learned this can distract them from asking to watch TV or play video games, thus using their time much more intelligently!

This is a GREAT kids game.
I love the Richard Scarry's theme and the fact that the players don't actually play against each other.
They are a team- My 5 five year old daughter is at an age where she hates it when she loses so this works great.
As an adult, I also enjoyed playing this with my daughter- which is really saying something.
The game board and pieces are very good quality as well.
I highly recommend this game for your family or a gift.
