University Games Polly the Porcupine Game Review

University Games Polly the Porcupine Game

We bought this for our daughter who is just over three and a half and she just understands the concepts involved in the toy - I am sure in a few months she will understand it much better. The toy is really different and it is definitely educational. It is well priced. The only problem is that there is nowhere to store the spikes of the porcupine and if you lose them - that is the end of the toy. We put them in a zip-loc and placed them in a place that only adults could get to. Otherwise a great toy.

Polly the Porcupine is a delightful memory and strategy game for kids. This fun game stimulates and develops memory, while giving children an introduction to simple strategy. Children also enhance their counting and fine motor skills with Polly.
Tots take turns drawing quills or spines out of Polly's back. Roll the die to determine whether you're trying to draw a short or long spine. After everyone draws a spine, all the players count up the notches on their spines to determine who won that draw. The player who drew the shortest or longest spine, depending on the roll of the die, gets to collect that spine. The other players have to return their spines, and they'll want to remember where they put them. You never know when you're going to need to draw another short spine. The player with the most porcupine spines wins. No reading required. Includes Polly the Porcupine, 32 Spines, Die and Instructions.

Eric Carle ABC Game Review

Eric Carle ABC Game

While this game may provide educational value in helping your child recognize upper and lower case letters, it does so at the expense of any fun or playability. I agree with the review that calls it a 'bad game.' You basically have to set up 52 letter cards around the board (!) and then each player takes turns scanning them to find the one that matches the letter the landed on. That's about it. It's dull and adds confusing rules for little ones, and frankly some flashcards have more educational value. We tried to play it once and couldn't get through one game - our daughter just wanted to spin the spinner. Booo. Darn shame since she loves the books.

University Games Brown Bear-Panda Bear, What Do You See? Game Review

University Games Brown Bear-Panda Bear, What Do You See Game

I have been looking for a game (board game to be exact) that I could play with my 2 1/2 yr old AND my 5 yr old. So many of the games my 5 yr old can play are just too advanced for my daughter. When I saw this game I took a chance .. esp since she LOVES all of Eric Carle's book. We have played this game almost daily since we received it at Christmas. My 2 1/2 yr old LOVES it. We don't follow the exact rules with her. I put the tiles into 2 piles (one for her / one for me). We each take a turn finding the animal on the tile and placing it on the matching piece on the board. This is something my daughter can do and really enjoys it. We talk about the different colors of the animals and the different sounds they make as we play.
I wanted to share this information as I know so many people have younger children who want to play games just like their older siblings. Here is a game that you can all play together and have fun.
I'll def start buying this game as a bday present for our 2 yr old friends. It's so fun to see them play it. Enjoy!

Gobble Gobble Review

Gobble Gobble

My 3 y/o grandson has fun with this game (will be 4 in Oct. '08). His parents wanted him to have more games that would give him a chance to think and strategize. It's a little advanced right now, but he has fun learning. It's bright and colorful. The game combines his knowledge of colors and numbers/counting to advance all 4 of his characters across the barnyard before his opponent can. He's delighted if Grandma's cow, pig, turkey or duck has to start over. The only negative in the games durability is the playing pieces. They are cardboard animals that slide into plastic stands. Little hands can ruin these in a short time. I think that one piece colored, plastic animals would work better.

Moooo, Oink-Oink, Quack-Quack, Gobble-Gobble! Spend a fun-filled day on the farm as you race to see who can move their farm animals across the board fastest. Spin the spinner, make your animal's sound as you move, but careful where you land - you'll go back to start if you end up on the wrong color. Gobble, Gobble! is a simple-to-learn game that introduces children to decision-making and strategy.
