The sound quality is really, really good, but besides that it's a lot of fun for him to make music without the fear of breaking little keys. Everytime we have friends over with their little ones, they end up wanting to know where we got this, because their kids end up loving it too.

LeapFrog LeapPad Educational Book: Kindergarten - Reading/Writing Review

(More customer reviews)Since the description of this does not give you a good grasp of exactly how the book is set up I will first fill you in on that. The first couple of pages are a maze game, which quite frankly I see no purpose for and really is not interesting to my child...might work for other kids though. Following that are the 26 letters of the alphabet in capital and lower case tracers each with a game area at the bottom of the page. The last few pages are game pages with simple three letter word tracers. Okay onto the review...
We got my son a leappad plus writing for Christmas last year (he was 3-years-old, now 4). Well needless to say he has become very bored with the Pre-K books available so I got this one. He has been doing tracer pages learning how to write his name for a little while now and I thought this would reinforce him wanting to learn how to write other letters not in his name. Much to my surprise he is not even remotely interested in doing the tracer area of the pages, however, the games at the bottom of the pages really hold his interest quite well. While he is not yet really learning how to write the different letters the little games at the bottom are teaching him how to spell simple words. This is very exciting for my son as he is finally starting to understand the ABC's have more purpose than just a song! While he is not really interested in tracing a whole page of A's or any other letter he gladly traces the simple three letter words at the bottom of the pages that are associated with the games, thus still teaching him how to write some letters. As a result of this he has learned to spell cat, cow, mop, dog, and gum which he can verbally do now without the word being spelled out in front of him. The game mode is simple to understand and the directions are fairly straightforward. Occasionally, he runs across a word he doesn't understand because it hasn't been taught to him yet, like buzzard, but do to his curiosity it provides a great reason to teach that word. Overall I give this 5 stars...even though it didn't get him excited about learning to write his letters.

(More customer reviews)I have tried leap pad books in the past and this is by far the absolute best in educational, fun, and replay value.
If your looking for a good leap pad book that will keep the kids occupied and learning constantly, this is it. We have bought leap start books in the past and have been dissapointed until now, this one is flawless !! Great layout, colorful pictures, and many pages more than one game on them. This also has an added "music" button at the bottom to stop and start background music and the larger 'GO' buttons help alot. This book also contains a 2 page layout of the letters of the alphabet which is colerful and complete with pictures and sounds for each letter "T is for turtle. t-t-turtle" or "T, Turtle" (also makes little cartoony sounds of a turlte walkling)The phonics book had a dull typed out version cramed into 1 page, nothing for a kid to get excited about.
If you have a child that will is learning letters sounds or how to read, this book is an absolute MUST HAVE (avoid the Phonics one)I hope all the leap pad books get as good as this in the future and this WILL NOT confuse the kids like the others do..
About me : My 3 year recieved it for her birthday and loves it and plays with it again and again because there are so many places you can tap to find something new. My 1 and a half year old son is learining the letter from it all by himself, he even tries to sing along with the alphabet song.
Other Leap Pad books purchased : Richard Scarry Vocabulary and Phonics Leaps Friends A to Z. (also the sample book that comes with the leap pad - which I thought want good but not great)

Vtech - V.Smile - Spider-Man & Friends Review

(More customer reviews)I have to agree with a couple of the other reviews. This game is a little challenging for young kids. I would think it is good for a typical first grader. That being said, this is my son's favorite of the games because of the characters. He always chooses this one, but becomes frustrated very easily. So, I end up playing. He loves the grocery store game (getting the supplies for the party). I HATE IT. It takes forever and the items on the list don't really look like the items on the shelves. I guess with some practice you would be able to get around the store maze quickly and get the items, but it takes me a while...and then paying for them...again counting out every coin for an endless stream of items. It does hold my son's attention span while I play, but as an adult, I think some of the other games (like Scooby Doo) are more entertaining.
