(More customer reviews)We bought the ClickStart computer along with this Thomas game as a Christmas gift for my 2 1/2 year old son. He had started showing an interest in our computer and had already learned how to find letters on the keyboard and use the mouse, so we thought he would enjoy having his "own" little computer and that it would also help keep him from going on ours all the time. Thomas the Tank Engine (and all of Thomas' friends) are his favorite toys, so he absolutely loves this software, and it keeps him focused and engaged for a long time. It only comes with 3 games, all of which are fairly simple; this was somewhat disappointing, since for $20 I would have thought there would be more games included. Each game does have 2 skill levels, so I suppose you could say there are 6 games included, even though it is really only 3. The graphics are OK but not spectacular, though of course our son does not care or know the difference so that really doesn't matter. He has fun with the games and they are appropriately matched to his skill level; after a short amount of time playing the games with him (prompting him what to do) he is now able to start up the computer, select a game and play it totally on his own (without our help). He also enjoys the "in between game" activities such as clicking on as many tickets as possible within a certain time frame, to earn extra points, and I think these are particularly good for helping him master control of the mouse. It does have some educational value with games centered around letters, spelling words, finding shapes and numbers, counting, etc. but I think the most valuable skills he is learning are using the mouse and keyboard. The audio voice is sometimes a little difficult to hear above the music, so I think that sometimes he clicks around and gets the right answer by trial and error rather than by listening to the audio instructions and following them. Overall, we are happy with the purchase, though it does not have quite as much educational value as I had originally hoped.

LeapFrog? ClickStart Educational Software:Finding Nemo - Sea of Keys Review

(More customer reviews)My 3-year old received this game for Christmas and loves it. He asks to play it daily and has had much more success with it than the games that came pre-loaded on the ClickStart.
The first game, Shark Hunt, shows a keyboard displayed on the screen. For level 1, a little fish "hides" behind one of the letters. When you click on the right letter you find the fish and earn a star. If you click on the wrong letter, a picture of something that starts with that letter appears and it makes the appropriate sound. My son likes this almost as much as finding the fish, which he is a whiz at now but still enjoys. Level 2 is similar but you spell out 3-letter words in order to find the fish.
The next game has Nemo popping the bubbles that fill the screen in order to reach the top. On level 1 the bubbles are color-coded according to the keys on the keyboard (click a blue key to pop a blue bubble, etc.). My son doesn't like this one too much. On level 2 the bubble have specific letters or numbers to push to pop the bubbles. He likes this one a little better, but still not his favorite.
The third game has a little turtle swimming through the water. You press the up and down arrows or use the mouse to move the turtle up and down to catch a particular shape that the game directs you to look for. My son likes this game pretty well; we haven't attempted level 2 on it yet though.
Overall I think this is a good product, though not a particularly great value at $20. I am very pleased that my son is now very familiar with where the letters are on the keyboard and is starting to spell 3-letter words, thanks in part to this game.

Leapfrog Clickstart Educational Software: Backyardigans: Number Pie Samurai Review

(More customer reviews)First off...my 3yo absolutely *loves* the clickstart computer and games. She is self taught and is a whiz at it.
We have all the games and purchased this one last. Out of all of them...this one is the most entertaining and the least educational.
When you open the game you have the choice to play 3 games and one option to listen to music you have "earned" in a game. One of the games has the player collecting fruit in a basket to make a pie. The player has to use the right and left arrow keys to move the character back and forth to catch falling fruit. Another game has a character flying through the air and the player has to use the mouse to run into flying pies. The final game has the player using the mouse to play a matching game. An instrument is shown on the screen and the player has to click on its match at the top of the screen. The instruments names are never mentioned. At the end of this game the characters dance to a tune. When you go back to the main menu, you can go into a pagoda house and play the tune you "earned" over again.
As you can see...based on the other ClickStart games that use numbers and letters...this doesn't use any (at least in level 1). And it is supposed to teach music but it does not. But it has the most entertaining games of all the cartridges.
Do I like it...yes. But it is a huge disappointment when it comes to education.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this game to go with our clickstart. My 4 yr old played it. The game takes the next level from the games built into the console. My daughter loves the fun house game. It has three levels and you have to beat level a to get to level b and level b to get to level c. It gives them a challenge once they have aced the built in games. It keeps track of your time and you can try and beat your best time. The game has you go up latter's, down slides and latter's, jump from the ground to platforms, walk left and right. It is great for learning letters. There is also a bubble popping game that is the next level from the console game. It asks you to pop a specific bubble by letter. This is a great addition to the console games. It is more challenging and once your child masters the beginning games it gives them more challenging games to go onto to.

(More customer reviews)My son just turned three and has been using his Click Start for about a year now. We absolutely love the Click Start system, but are not so fond of this game. He's played it four times since getting it last month, and has lost interest. It would be fantastic for a beginner, or as a first game for the Click Start. My son has the Diego game and that one seems to teach the same things in a more fun, more educational manner. With the Bob the Builder, even on level 2, the games don't take long to master and to get old. Each mode teaches something different, whether it's letters or numbers, or learning how to use the mouse and arrow keys. Once your child knows how to move the arrows back and forth and click on something, however, they've pretty much exhausted this game. Unless your child is just starting out with the Click Start, or is a huge bob the builder fan, I would recommend the Diego game instead for learning letters, numbers and use of the keyboard and mouse.

(More customer reviews)We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old, because she kept wanting to play with our laptop computers. We figured this was a better option for her, so she would not break our laptops.
She loved it from the minute we hooked it up, and has played it everyday for the past three weeks. She has not gotten tired of it at all since the more you play the more challenging the games get. We are still using the original set of batteries and the keyboard does actually turn itself off after 5 minutes of non-use. (Note...buy the AC adapter, so you can skip having to use batteries in the console unit)LeapFrog ClickStart™ My First Computer Adapter
We give it 5 stars for fun due to the fact that she wakes up each morning still looking forward to playing with Scout, and the Typing Tree. Not many toys can entertain and teach the ever important skills of keyboarding and mouse control to a 2 1/2 year old.
We give it 5 stars for educational value because she at 2 1/2 now has enough eye hand control to use not ony her little mouse accurately, but she can use a real computer mouse with percision. Counting, letter recognition, color recognition, following directions, phonics as well as nurturing are all addressed in the 4 games that are preloaded. The ability to add more games also merits 5 stars.
Durabiity gets 5 stars because she is two, has played with it everyday for three weeks and it still works! :-) She is not super tough on her toys, but has on several occasions carried the entire keyboard by the mouse cord. I was concerned that that mouse would stop working if the cord became loose, however, it is attached to the keyboard very securely behind a screwed in plate that kids cannot access, and you can actually replace it yourself with the replacement mouse offered by Leap Frog.
Again, this is a GREAT product!

(More customer reviews)My 3yo loves her clickstart computer and this is one of her favorite games. When you enter the game's menu you have the choice between 3 characters. Then you have to choose between 3 locations: Andy's house, the street, or the pizza place. All the locations are the same thing with different scenery. A number will be displayed at the top of the screen and, using arrow keys, the player will have to touch that number...which will release "aliens". Then the player has to "collect" those aliens. If the player runs into a wrong number then the game will say something like "that is the number 7, you are looking for the number 5" (this is in level 1). So the player learns numbers.
This game is great because the player can jump on furniture and use special tools (paperclip, bouncy box, etc) to get launched into the air. Plus it teaches numbers and collecting the aliens is fun.
It is a disappointment because all the other game cartridges offer 3 different games...this one offers the same game with choice of 3 characters and 3 different scenes.
Should you buy it...yes. For the simple fact that kids love it and it is educational. But could the writers have done a better job with the game selection...absolutely.
