Little Tikes Builder's Bay Sand & Water Table Review

(More customer reviews)We purchased this toy this spring and it has been quite popular with my 2 and 4 year olds. However, after less than 4 months outside, it is showing some signs of wear. The elastics that hold the top panels on when it isn't being used are totally stretched out and don't hold the top on. The table fills up with water each time it rains (big mess!). The umbrella is pretty flimsy and has to be stored inside or it blows away with a little wind.
The kids really make a mess with this and never did keep water on one side and sand on the other. If you are the kind of parent who likes order, this toy will drive you crazy as the kids will constantly mix water with sand and sand with water. The crane isn't all that fun and just gets in the way. Overall, the kiddos like it, but it is a bit pricey for what you actually get.

My 2 year old keeps bringing me the pieces....and I wish the mesh net was a little longer for the little ones to enjoy. (More customer reviews)I bought this for my son who is 19 months old. He LOVES playing in the water and so I thought he would enjoy this for many, many hours. While he does have fun with it, he likes spending most of the time taking the pieces off. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, except that when the lighthouse comes off and water gets into the base, the music plays OVER and OVER and OVER - kind of a problem for a toy that is supposed to have water in it. Also there is NO on/off button for the music which is annoying not only when water gets into the base of the lighthouse, but when we are trying to empty the water out and put it away.
Great idea for a toy, but I wouldn't recommend it until they come out with a new and improved version.

However, the design of the back side makes it possible to have a pretty nasty 3-4 foot fall if a child were to lean or slide too far back while sitting on the top platform. With older children this may not be such a problem, but for them the short slide will be pretty tame. Also shipping added about 30% to the cost.

We liked the idea of natural look so it would not stand out like a sore thumb in the backyard. It is big enough to hold my daughter and two of her friends. She also has a 6-year-old cousin who loves to play in it. They play for hours in it. The sides have little blocks on the corners for the kids to sit while in the sandbox and they are sturdy enough for an adult to sit on. The cover is high and rounded at the top so we are able to store all of her sand toys in the box. We are very happy with this purchase and would recommend this Step 2 product to anyone looking for a sandbox for young children.

It is short enough that our 16 month old has always been able to participate comfortably, and interesting enough that it still attracts my 4 and 6 year old children as well.
The water wheel is great fun, and the children love scooping water into its reserve to make it spin. The two levels of the table give the children individual play space if two children are playing. Now that winter is approaching, I look forward to adding sand instead of water to the table. I appreciate the easy-to-open plugs built into the basin, as it makes it easy to remove water (or sand). The toy, though sturdy, is also lightweight enough for an adult to pick up and simply pour water out, if desired. Children cannot, however, easily move or turn the table over.

With a 4 year old girl and an 18 month old little boy we thought this might be a fun product to try. I opened the box, set it up in a couple minutes and watched the kids start playing, and playing, and playing, and playing.
My wife and I were stunned. Both children spent hours shooting baskets. Even my little one was shooting and consistently making bank shots from 2 feet out with the hoop height set just above his head. Fortunately we had a couple other similarly sized balls around the house which prevented arguments over whose turn it was.
Both kids were so caught up in the fun and were doing so well that it wasn't long before the video camera and regular camera were clicking away. My little boy went to sleep that night with his arm curled around the basketball (similar to how he might hold a teddy) because he screamed when we tried to take it away. The first words out of his mouth the next morning was "shoot, shoot" as he stood up in his crib holding the ball. My wife commented that I've created a couple basketball monsters.
We've never had that type of reaction to a new toy and in some ways it was a bit daunting. I'm not sure if our children's reactions are typical, but at least in this house, this product is a huge hit.

I looked at a few sand and water tables & settled on this one because of the spinning accessories (they all seemed pretty similar otherwise) Comprably, the price was pretty good, too. I must say, we are really pleased with this purchase. Not only does my son LOVE it, but I found it very well made. Its really easy to put together (no tools needed!) but still nice & sturdy. It's also lightweight and easy to store. The entire table breaks down for compact storage. The table has two deep sections (so far we've used both for water- maybe we'll do sand in the future) Its a nice height for toddlers, and it comes with some really cute accessories. The scoops are perfect for little hands and the accesories are sturdy, too. They have withstood some abuse from my son. It has a sectional lid, so you could have one side covered while leaving the other open, or cover both. The lid fits nicely and has a little road design on top, so when not used for messy stuff, it could also serve as a play surface. Overall, I'm very pleased. I think its well worth the price. Its not cheap, for sure (considering its just molded plastic) but I learned pretty quickly that kids stuff is just expensive- even the junk- so I guess my expectations were low ;) . We try not to overindulge our son with 'stuff', but felt a toy like this would serve a multi-educational purpose, so we splurged. Pleased to say we weren't disappointed.

(More customer reviews)We bought this toy for our 16 month old twin girls. They absolutely love it! We did have problems with the rim falling off easily at first; but I called Little Tikes and they helped me solve the problem. They told me to take the backboard off, lay it on the floor and attach the hoop and then actually step on the flat part of the hoop until I heard it snap into place. This worked like a charm and the hoop hasn't fallen off since. We all enjoy playing basketball. Little Tikes has great toys and their customer service folks are really helpful if there's ever a problem.
