(More customer reviews)My 3 year old daughter saw this at the airport Borders store. At first I was reluctant because it is a thick book and I didn't know if I could fit it in among all the other diversion toys/books I had in my bag for her already! However, she fell in love with it and I caved.
I'M SO GLAD I DID! After a 4 hour flight, she did not want to get back on another plane - that's when we saw this book. This book kept her occupied for the entire 2nd flight. I didn't have to get out anything from my bag to entertain her (even new toys I had stashed for just the occasion - she showed zero interest in them compared to this book!)
The crayons are cool - they're triangle stackable crayons that fit in a small hand perfectly. The stackable feature is what kept my daughter so well occupied! She stacked them and re-stacked them, pretended it was a rocket when all put together, then would crash the rocket and put it back together again. Since they are triangle shaped, they don't roll every which way. The crayons have to be facing a certain way when placed in the plastic holder for them so that was a bit annoying for me, and upsetting for my 3 year old (it does say ages 4 and up), but it's still awesome that the crayons can stay with the book. The crayons in stacked form measure 5 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches high.
The back and front are VERY thick and sturdy cardboard. There are 75 pages total - this one is girl specific and you can either just color the 50 coloring book pages, listen to the directions on them - draw hair on the characters, draw jewelry on them, finish the other half of the princess castle, etc. There are 25 pages of blank paper at the end as well.
The book is held together by a very sturdy spiral - I know it's sturdy because my daughter has wrecked spirals before and she played with this and didn't do any damage.
I can see kids up through at least 6 years old really enjoying this. If you have an artsy kid who is older or picky, they may not like the triangle crayons, though they might be cool for a short time, and they may prefer regular crayons instead, but would still enjoy the book.

(More customer reviews)While this product has the potential to be a study and high quality product, the one I received was poorly constructed. There were three problems with mine. The board on top was warped a little, creating a not so good looking seam with the side boards. The second problem is the white board installation. It was installed with bubbles under it. I'm assuming it was glued and they didn't work the bubbles out. It's really annoying to draw on the bubbles. I plan to eventually replace this with a white board insert with one of my own. The third and most annoying problem was that the bolts were too short to put the unit together. I had to drill out the holes so that the bolts could sit below the surface of the wood and be long enough. It's possible the bolts were correct to begin with and that they just forgot to drill the holes properly. Either way, I was in the garage with a drill on Christmas day. I would have returned the unit had it not been Christmas morning and my son wanted to play with it. I also had the hassle of returning online purchases. If you can get one without these problems, I'd recommend you get one. They are study units. Just make sure to check it out and plan to return it if it's messed up.

Melissa & Doug 3 Jumbo Stamp Pads Review

(More customer reviews)OK, when I ordered, I really had no idea what I was going to get since there was not a picture. This is what you get - three circle stamp pads about 3-4 inches in diameter, one red, one blue, and one green, all in one long carton. The stamp pads each have their own lids so, once the single package is opened (containing all three), three different kids can each pick their own color and then switch colors. This is unlike the other MD stamp pads - those usually have six colors on one pallet. This is actually three individual stamp pads (of rather large size) in one package. I was very pleased and felt it was worth the money considering I have not seen stamp pads for this price where you have this type of color selection. I wish there was a picture, but hope my description helped someone. If you have ever bought those Keebler individual graham crusts where there are three in the one package, that is the set up and roughly the size, only a bit bigger. Again, hope this helps!

Spill Proof Paint Cups - Set of 4 Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this set of four paint cups after being dissatisfied with a set of 10 paint cups made by Chenille Kraft. While the Melissa and Doug paint cups are more expensive (1.88 vs. 1.12 each)they are also much higher quality.
Pros:
- screw on lid will not pop off
- cap makes airtight seal that keeps paint from drying out!
- slightly larger volume
Cons:
- more expensive than competitors

I was very unsatisfied with the design and construction of the Chenille Kraft paint cups. The snap on lids didn't all fit right and the caps didn't make an airtight seal which lead to the paint drying out. They are cheap, but you will only want to use them if you are going to clean them out after each use.
The Melissa and Doug paint cups have a solid design and construction. This means that I can store paint in the cups until it is used up. You don't have to worry about the lids popping off when they are dropped or squeezed. Great product.
See my video for a hands on comparison.With these paint cups I use Crayola Artista II Washable Tempera Paint and the Chenille Kraft Preschool Paint Brush Assortment (I have reviewed those products too). They are a great combination. I buy the paint in the 16oz bottles here on Amazon; you get a lot of paint for the money. My kids love the assortment of 24 brushes from Chenille Kraft and you can have a big and a small brush for each color of paint so you don't have to worry about washing them out until the end. Learning Resources Lowercase Alphabet Tracing Stamp Set Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased these for the purpose of teaching letter formation and writing skills. I was a preschool teacher for 3 years, a preschool director for 12 years, and am now an educational arts program director. I only mention this so you understand that I know of what I'm speaking:-) Over the years, I have ordered similar products several times before from school supply companies, and they were well made. They were easy for teachers to use, and children used them with great success.
These, however, are built like party favors. There is a reason they don't show you images of the underside-- it is a shallow plastic cookie cutter frame with a thin sheet of rubber glued inside. The rubber is so thin that the edges of the frame are exposed. The stamp itself (the part that is supposed to mark the paper), is very shallow and flimsy. That means that if you press too hard, the frame of the stamp leaves marks/smudges around the letter-- you can't get a clean letter image. Also, the dots are not clear. Dot-to-dot is no fun if the dots are not clear.
I am very disappointed, mostly because of my expectations based on previous products. This is more of a toy than a learning resource. I should have paid attention to the fact that it was listed in the toy category on Amazon.
If you are not a teacher, and you just want something to give your child that makes letters, this is probably fine. I wouldn't buy this for my child because it is important for children to be successful. I was not successful stamping my name, so I know my child wouldn't be successful either.

Positive Reinforcement Stamps - Animals Review

(More customer reviews)We use these stamps for corrected school work. My children really love the different animal stamps with their cute sayings like "Fintastic", "Bow Wow!", "Good Try", "Hoo-Ray!". I think all of the stamps are really cute although I would prefer that they didn't have the cat stamp that says "Purrfect" when you are trying to have them focus on doing their best, not being perfect. The stamps are cute and fun but the stamp pad that comes with it is extremely messy. Any time you press down on the pad red ink comes out everywhere (dripping down the sides of the stamp). There seems to be too much ink for the pad. And so, not wanting to use the ink pad leaves you with just the stamps which really doesn't justify the price. I think you could buy the stamps and a good ink pad for less or around the same price. If you are unable to find motivational stamps such as these then you may consider purchasing this item and buying a seperate ink pad.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this stamp set for my 3 year old. I was concerned when I was ordering it that it might not be up to the job of withstanding a 3 year old, due to the low price. When we recieved it, we tore it open to find the box was made of sturdy wood, as well as all the stamps. And yes, the ink really is washable! You just put the stamp under warm water and the ink just rinses away. It comes out of clothing, walls and just about anywhere else toddlers may think to put it. And the rubber stampers that are attached to the wooden blocks are very clear when stamped. There are no broken lines or unwanted blotches. I recently went to a local craft store looking for more stamps and found the prices to be overly rediculous. This kit is definately worth more than I paid. My son asks to play "dino stamps" all the time, and I don't mind pulling it out for him, because it really is washable. The colored pencils are wonderful, as the ink dries fairly quickly, so you can use them to color in the stamped outline. I most definately recommend this to anyone!

Crayola Washable Watercolors 24ct Pan w/brush Review

(More customer reviews)My little cousin received this paints set for Christmas. It is now June and she still has a little paint left after creating a tornado of paintings. These Crayola paints are a bit pricey but the paint pots are deep unlike most, so the paints last a long time. The colors are very bright and show up wonderfully, we've not found any other set with brighter paints. It also comes with a natural hair paint brush which is really nice, and a lot better than plastic. It does not leave bristles behind like the plastic brushes do. If you have a little artist at home this paint set should provide hours of fun.
