LeapFrog My First LeapPad Educational Book: I Know My ABCs Review

LeapFrog My First LeapPad Educational Book: I Know My ABCs
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a daycare provider I feel that this is an excellent toy. A comment to the last review; I believe that the manufacturers use the age levels as a guideline for parents. It is up to the parent to determine what the capability of their child is. Just handing this to your child and thinking that your child is going to enjoy playing with it, is not going to happen. As with any other learning toy it takes a parent to teach the child how to use the toy. Only then will your child get the most out of it, and it won't end up in the closet. All children learn at different paces.

Melissa & Doug Alphabet Train Floor Puzzle Review

Melissa and Doug Alphabet Train Floor Puzzle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Typical of this manufacturer, the graphics are high quality and the cardboard is thick and durable.
The cuts on the puzzle are divided so that one piece is one train car. (Other puzzles by other manufacturers can be put together without ever knowing or dealing with the alphabet.) The only way to construct this puzzle is to know the proper order of the English alphabet and attach them in that manner. Each piece contains both the upper and lower case letter and an illustration to go along with that letter.
My son began playing with this when he was three and did not yet know the letters by sight. He did know the alphabet song. I found the way to play this with the least frustration and the most educational value is for me to play alongside him. I let him piece them together until he asks for help (before he is angry). We sing the alphabet song together to find the next letter in the alphabet. If he doesn't know it by sight he asks for help and I give phonetic clues such as "G makes a sound like "gg", what do you see that starts off like that sound" at which point he finds the goldfish. One complaint though is that the goldfish is sometimes mistaken for just a fish and the F. I wish something more blatantly "g" was chosen for that one. We progress in this manner until it is done. I feel this has helped him learn the letters by their sight.
The appeal for my son was that this is a train related toy. Learning the alphabet was a byproduct that he was not aware was actually my key motive in buying this.
I also appreciate both upper and lower case letters being shown as sometimes alphabet toys and activities use just one or the other.
If you like this type of learning activity I'd also suggest the numbers puzzle by this same manufacturer to help learn the numbers by sight.

Hungry Hungry Hippos Review

Hungry Hungry Hippos
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This toy is not worth the money! I remember playing this game with one of my brothers when I was little, and we always had a good time. I was hoping to replicate the experience for my children; unfortunately, this game has been brought back in a junky, poor quality version. The hippos have to be removed from the game board with their necks extended and locked into place in order to put the game away in the box. My kids (6&4) have a hard time putting it together or putting it away by themselves (huge minus in my book!). The hippos sometimes become detached from the game during play. Their necks *frequently* get stuck in the extended position, necessitating stopping the game so that it can get fixed. The marbles are cheap, hollow plastic rather than the heavier marbles I remember from my childhood. The stickers don't stay on the hippos very well, so none of our hippos have eyes anymore. Even the box itself is incredibly flimsy if you hope to use it as a storage box for the game. Don't waste your money! Our game is sitting in the donation bin waiting to be taken to charity!

Down by the river in a shady grove, live the Hungry Hungry Hippos. There's HoneyPotamus (who loves anything sweet), VeggiePotamus (who loves all things green), PickyPotamus (who's very, very picky), and his big brother BottomlessPotamus (who isn't picky at all!).Come on down to the riverbank and join the Hungry Hungry Hippos for a gobblin' good time. The player whose hippo munches the most wins! This heritage game with its frenetic, colorful gameplay is a recognizable favorite that always leaves kids hungry for more!

Simple Machines- Set of 5 Machines Review

Simple Machines- Set of 5 Machines
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this set to use in my fourth grade classroom. Simple machines are much easier to understand if students are able to experience them. This set allows that experience to a degree, but it just does not hold up to repeated use. Additionally, a few of the simple machines do not illustrate the concept as well as they could. Save your money and look for a different product.

ThinkFun Zingo Review

ThinkFun Zingo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this game for my children several years ago on the advice of the owner of my favorite toy store. I love board games, and my children were 3 and 5 then, and just starting to enjoy them as well. Well, we couldn't get the kids to stop playing Zingo. They played quietly for more than 2 hours. Since you can play with up to 8 players, we have had lots of neighborhood kids playing the game out on the front steps. Since then, I have bought at least 10 Zingo games -- I have given them to all my children's friends and I always keep a few around to give out for birthday gifts. Everyone loves this game.

iPlay Zip Around Mountain Review

iPlay Zip Around Mountain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son is 22 months old and he loves this toy. We already have lots of leapfrog or fisher price educational toys for him so this one is a nice change. He loves to see the balls or cars running down the track and coming out thru the tunnel at the bottom. The track is wide enough for him to play with his other balls and little cars from home so he won't get bored easily. U can put your object behind the gate or at the open area with the red button. U press down the traffic light and the gate would open.
The only part that needs batteries is the traffic light and you can just switch it off if you don't like the sound effect. It's easy to assemble and sturdy enough for a toddler. But, of course, if your baby decided to climb on it, that's a different story.
Overall, it's a simple but fun toy to collect for your toddler. It would keep him busy for a good amount of time.

This is really cute. It doesn't look like alot but it really adds to the whole looke of the dollhouse. It is made to match the dollhouse and it comes with another Dora in a different outfit than the one with the dollhouse. With alot of kids wanting to play with the dollhouse and all the accessories you can never have too many Doras. It also includes a potting bench which has can be flipped so that Dora is planting either vegetables or flowers, a wheelbarrow and a big sun hat for dora to wear. It also makes the noise of birds chirping when you press the mat in front of the door. We are happy we got this.

BRIO Natural Blocks - 50 pcs Review

BRIO Natural Blocks - 50 pcs
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These look like the standard wooden blocks we all grew up with in the online picture, but they are not. These are in fact a miniature version of our old standard blocks - maybe a quarter of the size. Perfect for losing all over the house, and not at all what I had in mind for my little boy. I see now in the online picture that there are no children in the picture with the blocks so that one might be tipped off to the size. If you are looking for little blocks, that's fine, but if you are expecting the old familiar basic chunky wooden blocks, look elsewhere.

Duck Duck Goose Game Review

Duck Duck Goose Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 3 1/2 year old absolutely loves this game. She likes to sing the song and the pieces are just the right size for her. Some of the cardboard ducks can be a little flimsy but we've had great fun with this game as a family. I also like the fact that the game is short and winning is "luck of the duck" so it helps us as parents work on good sportsmanship while playing multiple times so everyone can win.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Duck Duck Goose Game

Duck Duck Goose has been around for years, and kids still love this game. Now you can play the same beloved nursery school game in a game board version. Move the animated goose around the pond, and make its wings flap up and down. With each splash, the goose calls out "Duck" or "Goose". When you hear "Goose", pick up the adjacent duckling, and see if the color on the bottom matches one of the colors in your nest. The first player to gather three ducklings into his or her nest wins. Press the tail, and everyone gets to hear the song.

Alex 10" Wooden Fashion Weaving Loom in a Plastic Carry Tote Review

Alex 10 Wooden Fashion Weaving Loom in a Plastic Carry Tote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my 6 year old daughter for Christmas. She likes crafts and she isn't really old enough for me to teach her crochet or knitting, but this seemed like something similar that she could do. Her grandmother helped her work on it for a little while on Christmas day, then it disappeared into her room never to be seen again. She was able to do it, but apparently it wasn't very entertaining. Oh well.
I gave it as many stars as I did because the loom and the yarn were good quality (for a toy) and the package it comes in can be used as a carrying case (so the peices stay together and don't get scattered to the four winds like most of her toys).

Alex Toys Tumbling Mat Review

Alex Toys Tumbling Mat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought two of these mats last Christmas. We used one for playing on (we have tile floors) and one as a safety net under my son's crib. Less than a year later the top layer is peeling off and the handles have torn off. This is not a sturdy mat. I am very disappointed in the quality. I am in search of a better quality mat as we are now using the mats for physical therapy. It is unpleasant to have pieces of the mat stuck to your child as she rolls or moves across the mat.

Tomy Pop-Up Pirate Game Review

Tomy Pop-Up Pirate Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a speech/language therapist, working with pre-schoolers age 3-5. They love this game! The anticipation of the pirate popping holds their interest (long enough to do their therapy) and they don't have to wait long for another turn. I wasn't thrilled about taking a toy with swords to school, but have only had to tell them once that "we don't fight with them, they're for the game." It has been frequently used, not treated too gently, but it is still in excellent working condition. I do not use the blue base included with the game, it seems unnecessary and only seems to make the game easier to tip over. The kids don't think they lose when the pirate pops, they think they won! Sometimes he jumps out on the first sword stuck in the barrel, other times it might be the last one! (I have no idea how this happens!) This is a very good beginner game, for learning turn-taking, although it is not particularly educational.

Its a barrel of fun for the whole family! Push the pirate into his barrel, select your favourite color swords, then take turns sliding a sword into the barrel slots. But beware - if the pirate pops up you're OUT! The last remaining player is the winner. No batteries required.
