(More customer reviews)I am so disappointed with this toy. I have never written a review this harsh, but this toy is basically a cheap piece of junky plastic. It doesn't work well. You have to practically put the ball section into your mouth for the voice amplification to work, and even then it functions very poorly. Bystanders might notice a slight voice amplification, but the user can't tell it at all except for some static sounds. Of course, my 3-year-old granddaughter wants to be able to hear her own voice being amplified when she sings into it. There is a button to push to hear Dora sing, and that works fine, but we bought this for the microphone part. I know the other reviews here on Amazon are 5 stars, which is why I purchased this toy, but I now notice that none of the previous reviews are Verified Amazon Purchases. That's all I have to say about that. My advice...don't waste your money on this.

(More customer reviews)If I had known, if anywhere it had been written, that this toy will relentlessly play "Pop Goes the Weasel" when the blue button is pushed, and that once it starts it won't stop until it's through, I would not have purchased it. It's a shame because otherwise it's a great toy - no batteries ever needed (unfortunate only because of the "Pop Goes the Weasel" feature), very sturdy, the amplifying aspect of the microphone is fine. I appreciate the minimal packaging and somewhat ecologically sound approach. I hate being held hostage by that annoying tune.
I am updating this review to report that the toy has broken after two months of normal use. So much for "eco" - now it is a hunk of plastic headed for the landfill. I have tried to adjust the "star rating" for "durability" to one star, although it doesn't seem to reflect my changes when published. Avoid.

(More customer reviews)I got this toy for my grandson who lives with us for Christmas last year (08). I had bought microphones for him before which were flimsy and didn't last long. I had decided to start buying better quality toys though it meant I would be buying fewer. Andrew was delighted with the toy in every way, loves the sounds with it. And so do his friends who visit. At the time I bought it, there had been no reviews for it which I find so useful. But I took a chance. As far as durability, it has done well considering how he drags it around. He sometimes complains (though not lately) that he couldn't get it to work. I always found the problem to be the cord was not plugged into the base well (becuase he pulls on it walking around) or he did not have the switch on. I could always get it to work. The only other problem I had was that the stand that holds the microphone would lift out of the base easily. This I remedied by putting some tape around the stand and it holds well and the tape does not show. I would recommend this toy.

(More customer reviews)My one year old got this as a gift for her 1st birthday. She usually loves musical toys, so we let her have this toy right away. She had a great time watching us wind the back for about two minutes. She was clapping her hands with her eyes wide open. The actual toy was quite a let down. The music volume is very low. The largest button is the "radio" which just plays static (like when you are between radio channels). The buttons don't always work. The toy only lasts about 15 minutes after a 2-3 minute charge. I also broke my thumbnail off while winding the toy.

(More customer reviews)My daughter is 14 months and was ecstatic when she saw this. She's in a new Elmo phase and she fell in love with this microphone! It's very easy for her to use, she figured out how to push the buttons immediately after I showed her once. There is a side button on the left that makes Elmo's glasses come down and he asks who turned the lights out, but this button isn't so easy to push. Since it's a Christmas gift and we haven't taken it out of the box, maybe she will be able to push it when she's holding it. Elmo sings adorable, recognizable kid songs that had her dancing right away! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because of the volume. You can not adjust the noise level and this microphone is L-O-U-D!!! I know how loud other toys are, and this is probably (I'm not exaggerating) in the top 3 loudest toys we've ever owned. (The others had their batteries taken out because they were just too loud.) When I'm sitting by her trying to sing the song with her, I know she can't hear me singing!! (Which may be a good thing...) Do they have it this loud that so when kids sing into it they can still hear the song and not loose their place?? I would still highly recommend this to any Elmo lover, just beware of how LOUD ELMO CAN SING!
