(More customer reviews)For my almost 3 year old, I wanted a toy that would last for a while. This is perfect because she can use it now and for the next year or two at least. After that, it is always a loved toy whoever plays with it.
I found the others available to be too simple and limited in their use.
Don't be fooled by the colors on the maze. This is a solid product and is exceptional in every way. I haven't tried it while driving in the car, but I will see if it's good for long rides as well while in the carseat.
At home otherwise, it's perfect to play with mommy or another child alongside (two wands)

(More customer reviews)The best thing about this kit is that the eraser is magnetic all on its own. The caddy, however, went in the garbage 5 minutes after I unpacked it. It's made of cheap plastic, like the kind you'd find in a box of cookies. And every time I tried to take the eraser or one of the markers out of the caddy, several markers fell onto the floor. But, the eraser being magnetic saves the day. Subtract how much you think 6 markers are worth from the price and ask yourself if you'd pay that much for a magnetic eraser.

(More customer reviews)I was a little concerned about purchasing a game with realistic pictures of fish for my four year old girl who loves dress-up dolls, the color pink, and anything with the word "princess" in it. She loves it! She talks to the fish just like she does her dolls, picks them up with the magnetic fishing rod, and then "puts them to bed" or "home" by returning the fish to their proper place in the puzzle. I've been pleased with the quality of every toy I've bought from this manufacturer, and now look for them when shopping online or at the store.

When I recieved it I was disappointed to see that it was all plastic (maybe I didn't read the description very well) but the plastic does not look durable at all. The magnetic board is also plactic and doesn't close securely to keep the pieces inside. The magnets on the pieces do not look like they will stay on very long. I'm returning this product and purchasing another. The ordered set comes with more pieces, is foam and has magnets also.

Fridge Words Magnetic Word Builder Review

(More customer reviews)I was delighted to find out the magnets from the Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter set also work with this! So if you have both, you can spell out double lettered words (such as "dad" and "mom" (and it is programmed to read those words, as well!)
The only problems we've been having with it are related to the tinny sound. The Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter set sounded nice, but the Word Whammer sound quality is poorer. I know I had a hard time telling "Find the 'F'" from "Find the 'S'". Lucky for us adults, if we know what word it wants us to spell, we know which letter, but it confounds the kids.
If it weren't for the sound quality the toy would be *perfect*. It is really well designed, and very effective at keeping the kid's interest long enough for them not to realize they're learning while they're having fun. If you don't mind needing to translate what the machine said every so often, I highly recommend this.

However, though this toy is great because of the educational aspect and the magnetics, my son and I were disappointed that the shapes don't align and fit together properly because they have rounded tips. This makes it hard to make the patterns it comes with. If your child would be frustrated because they want it to fit perfectly, then you might consider their other pattern block sets in the wooden box. They have a Beginner one and another one which has more pieces. These have straight lines because they are not magnetic. Here are the links to these two products.
