(More customer reviews)My 2 1/2 yr old daughter loved this parachute the instant we got it out of the box! I love the bright colors and fun polka dot design, and it's nice that it's big enough for all of her friends to play along or you can use it to make a fort by draping it over chairs. What I don't like about it is the carrying case is too small (you really have to fold it tightly to get it back in), it's very lightweight (and so I feel it could rip easily if any kid got on top of it), the mesh hole in the middle is too big (your "mushroom" falls quickly), and it is NOT machine washable (I really wanted a parachute that was machine washable, but I should have known that if it's not listed in the item description, than it's not part of the deal). But I'm glad I bought it because I really like how this parachute looks and my daughter loves to play with it. Bottom line: if you want a kid-pleasing parachute that brings excitement the instant you pull it out, this is it!

LEGO Duplo Basic Bricks Review

(More customer reviews)We had a really difficult time finding a decent starter set of Duplo bricks. They just don't sell the simple sets in the stores anymore, which makes no sense because they are the BEST sets. So we ordered this set from Lego. For about half what they're asking here. I've noticed a trend of Lego having the fairest prices of all the stores selling their products. Odd. Anyway, for anything Lego, I would definitely do some comparison shopping using the company website first.
With this set, I was concerned beforehand that there might not be a wide enough variety of pieces, despite the generous number (80 pieces total). This was due in great part to the fact that I couldn't seem to find any photos of the side of the box where they give the detailed information and really this is the only information you're wanting before making a rather sizable Lego purchase, right? Since no one else has mentioned this, I'll show what a total geek I am by publishing these details.
Here's the breakdown of the pieces by size:
56 2x2 peg square pieces
20 2x4 peg rectangular pieces
2 2x4 peg pieces (1/2 thickness of regular pieces)
1 2x6 peg long rectangular piece
1 2x8 peg ex-long rectangular piece
And by color!
14 red
13 each of green and yellow
12 blue
8 each of light green and orange
5 each of black and white
2 transparent blue 2x2 peg pieces
The transparent pieces were an immediate source of tension between my two daughters; they both love them. The entire set is fantastic. It's just the right amount of pieces, and I didn't feel like Lego was as stingy with the rectangles as in the previous 'My First Lego Set' we'd bought. Or maybe it's just that we now finally have enough Legos to really build something! I do wish there had been a couple more large rectangles, and maybe a couple more transparent pieces, but that's not really a gripe.
I think if you're starting out with Duplos, there isn't a better set out there with the right amount of creative, open-ended pieces and affordability. We would have started with this one had it been sold in stores. Another point in its favor, at least as far as I'm concerned, is that it was not made in China or Mexico, but rather in Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Premier Kites Mikey Monkey Kite Review

(More customer reviews)After buying a couple of spur of the moment kites, including a "stunt" kite, that never got up for more than a minute, I nabbed this from Amazon after searching for "easiest kite to fly". Tried it out on the beach in SC, and sure enough it went up with no effort (no running). Sent it up 100 yards in no time, no doubt could have gone way higher.
I'd recommend also buying a spool of string with a fishing type leader at the end. Maybe it was the leader that made it easy, but this kite was a piece of cake to fly.

Duck Duck Goose Game Review

Some of the cardboard ducks can be a little flimsy but we've had great fun with this game as a family. I also like the fact that the game is short and winning is "luck of the duck" so it helps us as parents work on good sportsmanship while playing multiple times so everyone can win.

(More customer reviews)We bought this game to play with our sons (ages 3 and 5) and they love it! It's easy to learn, quick to play, and a lot of fun. And unlike some of the kid games out there, it's not mind numblingly dumb or boring. Our boys love being able to roll the dice each time--and believe it or not, this is one of two games we own where there are no tantrums over who won and who lost. They just ask to play again, again, again!
It's even good for kids who aren't counting very high, and both the kids are engaged while we play. There are probably more educational games around, but this one is just plain fun. :)
A quick 'how to' for this game:
Roll the two dice.
Sleeping kitty - do nothing
Arrow - pass one of your mice to the person on your left
Mouse - take a mouse from the bowl
Food bowl - feed the kitty one of your mice
So if you roll an arrow and a food bowl, you pass one mouse to the left and put one in the bowl. The last person with mice left wins. Very simple to play and as I said up above, it's a quick moving game--no time to get bored.

While kids are having fun playing, they are improving their fine motor skills and patterning. They can be creative with their own designs or learn to follow one of the included pattern cards. Giraffalaff Limbo Review

(More customer reviews)Our 5yr old is TOTALLY into animals and wanted an eco-friendly, animal rescue birthday party. So we had a travelling zoo come visit during his party while she educated the kids about abandoned or abused exotic animals & insects and for our obstacle course, we hung a disc swing from a tree and placed toy alligators on the ground for the kids to 'swing over the alligator swamp', taped pictures of Go Diego Go's BO-BO brothers on empty plastic bottles and had them bowl with a soccer ball to knock them down. The HUGE hit (besides the zoo lady and animals) was this Giraffalaff Limbo. We had kids from 4-8yrs old excited to play this game. Unfortunately this was too small for the 7 and 8yr olds as they kept knocking the limbo bar off but the younger kids from 4-6yrs old LOVED it and played it over and over again. It worked exactly like it was supposed to and prompted a lot of smiles, laughs and giggles. There is a button that you push on the bar, then someone else spins the arrow and tells the crowd which sort of walk you have to try to do under the bar...ie: backwards walk, crab walk, crawl, etc. I still chuckle at the thought of my little one doing his 'crab walk' and 'bird walk'...for his crab walk, he had pinchers for his hands and fingers and simply walked under, all the kids flapped their arms for the bird walk...some chirped, one jutted his neck out like a chicken...it was the cutest thing.
It SEEMS like the poles will break at some point because they are made with that hard type of plastic but so far, they've been knocked down, used as a toy gun, been stepped on accidentally by (little) kids and SO FAR it's held up but I don't see it lasting much longer due to the type of plastic...it IS loads of fun though and if you can get it at a fair price, I'd say to definitely nab it for a bunch of laughs and giggles. I do wish that it were just a bit taller though so older kids can play along with younger kids so we'd get more use out of it but it's a blast for the younger crowd.

I'll be truthful, sometimes I try to play games with her and I'm bored out of my mind...this wasn't like that at all. It's a game that's fun for the kids to play together, but also for adults to play WITH kids. The general idea is that you spin to choose pieces of the giraffe's neck and stack to see who gets the highest giraffe. There are lots of ways to adapt the game to extend play...plus the girls had fun just goofing around with the game pieces.

Tomy Screwball Scramble Game Review

(More customer reviews)I am a play therapist and got this game to help my child clients (6 to 8 years old) who have difficulty with frustration tolerance, impulse control, attention and focus. I put in my playroom yesterday, and my three most difficult children all asked to play with the new toy. This game is fantastic. Children who before this have not been able to tolerate any kind of frustration of their control of a game without a tantrum, a meltdown, or quitting, spent their entire sessions focused on running the ball through the course. When they had difficulty navigating the ball, they tried again and none of the three asked to give up, or play something else. No one completed the course without having to start over, but they enjoyed the game thoroughly, it kept their attention, and although we used it as a 2-player game, they were more focused on besting themselves than on winning against me.
This is an excellent game for teaching children patience, delayed gratification, and the fun there can be not only in winning, but in playing the game. Children will also have the opportunity to build self-esteem, and experience mastery and appropriate control. I highly recommend it.

Seriously, everyone (Mom, Dad, and 3 year old) were laughing so hard while we played this that tears came to our eyes. My daughter asks for this game all the time... and because it encourages so much movement/physical activity, I'm more than willing to compromise on a few things. You gotta love games that both keep kids moving and laughing at the same time!
(BTW - Things I would change: more variety in the music & the ability to take the game apart... right now, it won't fit back in the box - both of these issues are minor ones to me!)

I recommend you get two or three and they will harmonize. Kids can control the speed of the song it sings and it is very portable. WE LOVE OURS ( we have about 8 and they sound like a chorus ). Best age ( 2-10 ). Buy one, you'll be hooked for life. Now, don't ask me what species they are but they sure can carry a tune.

I Play Super Skipper Review

(More customer reviews)My 3 1/2-year-old son received this as an early Christmas present. The music drew him in, but it goes too fast for him to "play" the game. My six-year-old daughter, however, loves it. The rods spin around on the base and the kids have to skip or jump over the poles. Even on the slowest mode, my son still couldn't get the hang of it. He enjoys running in a circle away from the poles, but doesn't understand to stand in one place and jump. And we still haven't figured out how to get more than one child to play and not run into each other or get knocked down. My son's favorite thing about the Super SKipper is the telescoping poles--he uses them as swords and "stabs" us all with them. A fun idea but not for three-year-olds like the box says.

She loves it! She talks to the fish just like she does her dolls, picks them up with the magnetic fishing rod, and then "puts them to bed" or "home" by returning the fish to their proper place in the puzzle. I've been pleased with the quality of every toy I've bought from this manufacturer, and now look for them when shopping online or at the store.
