Sir Handel is one of my 3 years old son's favorite character of Thomas Friend. After I got Peter Sam and then he always ask "where is Sir Handel?" My son needs Sir Handel because they often work together and help each other. My son needs both Sir Handel and Peter Sam when playing for specific scene. And it is based on a story of Thomas Friend. I finally ordered it because my son and Peter sam need great friend, Sir Handel!

Brought up under instruction from Duke, Sir Handel is one of the oldest engines on the Narrow Gauge Railway. He generally is of the opinion that he knows it all and should be the boss. This occasionally leads him to have a tantrum or bad attitude. Still, he always gets the job done.

Large Kitchen Review

Large Kitchen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As my kids began to outgrow their Discover Sounds kitchen, I began scouting around new kitchens. I checked out the many plastic molded kitchens, but opted to go the wood kitchen route. Of the wood kitchens, this is far and away the nicest, best equipped, and most attractive kitchen I've found. The sink is removable and can actually be filled with water. The faucet swivels, the clock hands are movable, there are two shelves in the cabinet beneath the sink for storage, two shelves in the refrigerator (in addition to the freezer compartment on top), and a white grooved shelf in the oven that serves as the removable oven rack.
There is room for lots and lots of playfood, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and small appliances. I love that the color scheme is suitable for both boys and girls, and much more appealing than the more institutional-looking wood kitchens.
The assembled kitchen is approximately 42" wide X 43" high X 16" deep (excluding handles and knobs). It took my husband and I over an hour to assemble, and as each additional piece gets attached, it locks the piece together very solidly.
There is room for multiple children to play simultaneously, as my children often do. It is a major piece of our playroom, and an integral part of my kids' day-to-day play.

Melissa & Doug Beginner Pattern Blocks Review

Melissa and Doug Beginner Pattern Blocks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a brightly-colored, sturdy pattern block set. I would give this set to a child between 20 months and 3 years. My 22-month old just loves it. As soon as he saw it (hidden away, intended as a Christmas gift) he kept at me to open it. I finally gave in, and I am so glad that I did. He is at the perfect developmental level for this toy! He tries to match up the shapes and colors, and is even starting to name the shapes on his own. This is such an exciting age!
I like how the solid wooden boards are double-sided and VERY sturdy. There are more than enough pieces to go around- even if a few are lost over the years. A few of the pictures arrived with some scratching, but I think this is more annoying for me than it is for my child.
Don't forget that these patterning blocks can also be used independantly of the boards. This enables your child to come up with more challenging creations as she or he developes greater skill in this area.

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Sodor Chicken Cars Review

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Sodor Chicken Cars
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son wanted these from the time he saw them in a Thomas the Train catalog. He finally got them for Christmas and LOVES them. They really are adorable. The egg "cargo" is removable; and, when you slide the door on the car, you hear the chickens clucking. Too cute. Amazon's price is much better than any of the stores, too. We're not into buying all the cars to go with our train set, but this is definitely a great set to have!

Melissa & Doug 100 Piece Wood Blocks Set Review

Melissa and Doug 100 Piece Wood Blocks Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought two boxes of these blocks for my son when he was two because blocks are a wonderful open ended toy. The blocks were well made and the paint never chipped on ours. Although the product was as described I would not buy them again.
I found these to be so small it took a lot of patience and time to build larger structures. My son's creations would take a while to build, then fall over easily. My son and I had a few opportunities to play with larger blocks and it was so much fun to assemble huge, more stable towers, quickly. I gave all our little blocks away and bought the Melissa and Doug set of 60. We now have a daughter who is almost one and both children use them daily in different ways. If I could do it all over again I would have saved money and began with the set of 60. We are considering a second set of the larger blocks since they are so much fun and well worth the money. [...]

Plan Toy Sorting Bus Review

Plan Toy Sorting Bus
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a well made and attractive wooden toy. As a pull toy it falls short in that the string is too short for the wheels to stay on the floor with our child has the string in his hand. As a sorter, it is useless. Maybe as a child gets older, he will put the shapes into the proper receptacles. Until then, if he uses the shapes at all, he puts them into the open back. The open back is a problem, though. When the toy is pulled (carried around) the shapes just fall out the back. Our guy does seem to enjoy placing the driver into its proper spot, at least. Save your money and buy a GOOD pull toy and a GOOD sorter. This one is not good in either category.

If you have nothing else buildy or stacky in your house, you might like these. They are very pretty to look at. But I opened the box and found myself thinking I paid $40 for this??? There's just not a lot to them. They're also very shiny and slippery and as an adult even I found them cumbersome to attempt to stack. Not worth it - these are going back.

BRIO Magnetic Stacking Train Review

BRIO Magnetic Stacking Train
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I thought it would be cool to teach our little boy about how magnets work with this train, however it's not as easy to get the magnets to stick to the base of the train as one would think. There is only one side of each of the pieces that attaches magnetically to the train's base. So that means you have to try up to 6 surfaces to find the "sticky" surface. Seems like a simple thing but it's kind of annoying. Wouldn't have bought this had I known this.

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Whiff Review

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Whiff
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We watch Thomas once in a while and play with the wooden railway every day. My son saw the episode with Whiff and loved it. He finds Whiff hilarious (I am not really sure why--maybe the glasses and/or his voice)? He really loves Whiff; the only other tv character he really loves and interacts with is Dora the Explorer, and he likes Whiff just as much as Dora. The episode's message is a good one (Emily tries to avoid Whiff, whom she is supposed to help haul garbage, because the other engines make fun of him--and her by association--because he is a garbage train...then she realizes Whiff is her friend and apologizes for avoiding him). My son has only a few trains (they are quite pricey) and this is one that was a must for his small collection! These trains are really well made, they stand up to a lot of abuse, and they do a good job of promoting open-ended play.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Whiff

Whiff is a cheery, little tank engine with a very special job: he collects rubbish! He has a look and smell all his own! Whiff doesn't care too much about appearance. He's splodgy green and brown: the result of being patched up and painted over without attention to detail or color charts. He frequently puffs round the Island festooned with bits of rubbish that get stuck on his engine, as he biffs and bashes. None of this matters to Whiff. What matters to Whiff is getting his job done and getting it done well. He loves collecting rubbish and doesn't notice the turned up noses he passes along the way. You can't help but like Whiff. He's a little engine with a big heart. And really, really useful! Vehicle includes a character card explaining the unique personality and job on Sodor. Vehicles aid in developing fine motor skills, color identification and counting skills. Measures 1.5"L x 5.5" W x 5"H.

Maxim Natural Wood Blocks, 100-Pieces Review

Maxim Natural Wood Blocks, 100-Pieces
Average Reviews:

These are nice blocks with a few different shapes but I personally would not buy them again for the price I paid. I saw 100 count blocks for $24 and thought, "What a steal." When I received the box I couldn't believe that 100 pieces of anything could fit in it. If I would have seen them at a store I would not have paid that much for them. You could buy a dowel and a block of wood and cut out these shapes for much cheaper.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Magnetic Pattern Blocks Set Review

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden Magnetic Pattern Blocks Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love Melissa & Doug toys because they are educational, innovative and lead-free. However, though this toy is great because of the educational aspect and the magnetics, my son and I were disappointed that the shapes don't align and fit together properly because they have rounded tips. This makes it hard to make the patterns it comes with. If your child would be frustrated because they want it to fit perfectly, then you might consider their other pattern block sets in the wooden box. They have a Beginner one and another one which has more pieces. These have straight lines because they are not magnetic. Here are the links to these two products.

200-Piece Wood Block Set with Tote Review

200-Piece Wood Block Set with Tote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading reviews of other available block sets we were a little concerned about what we'd find when this one came to us, since there were no sizes or dimensions listed, but they turned out to be just what my children had hoped for. My budding architects and city planners have used the blocks delightedly and they are rarely NOT in use, but (theoretically, at least) the canvas tote bag is a plus for storage as well. We're very happy with the purchase.

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden Railway Set Review

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden Railway Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This train set is absolutely awesome -- right out of the box. You can tell it has quality craftsmanship and from the start is a way better deal than the overpriced Thomas Train sets and track. My husband is a hobby woodworker and the first thing he said was "wow, this is much better quality than I was expecting for the price!"
I could not find another set with as many "goodies" as this one has (bridges, supports, roundhouse, two trains, etc), all in one box and WITHOUT a bunch of "extras" that a young child won't play with. Most of the high piece count sets I saw online were 50% people, trees and signs -- but this one is mostly all track, bridges and usable accessories! It comes with 2 trains and a little semi with a 5th wheel trailer that runs on the track as well -- very cute!
The layout plans they send you (4 in the box) are super helpful to combine designs with a little time and effort or use their designs. We spent about $20 at Menards and bought a 4x4 sheet of pre-sanded plywood to anchor this set to. The hubby routed the corners and edges smooth, and trimmed it down to about 4x3' to fit the train set. Then he predrilled and counter sunk screws into the track and the supports so everything is secured down. This is absolutely PERFECT setup for a 2 year old boy being, well, a 2 YEAR OLD! He's rough and still learning fine motor skill control, so it's much more fun to play on a set that doesn't fall over with clumsy, rough play!
So my hubby made some extra risers out of 2x4's and he built a "high rise" section of track to make one big "roller coaster" leg that went from end to end, sending the trains down the hill at a pretty fast clip, and our son giggles when they derail on the other end from such high speed!
We also purchased the Mountain Tunnel Accessory Set that looks not only realistic (way better than Imaginarium from Toys R Us and others we looked at), but also seperates into two pieces: the top comes off to make another tunnel, the bottom piece has two tunnels that criss-cross. Our son LOVES THIS! He can take the top piece off and put it over other places of the track all by himself. It's pretty sturdy, thick and hard plastic, but not indestructible of course. It's stood up to his rough play so far, and we're VERY pleased with the quality and durability. Amazon was the best price and shipping (not free when I bought it) that I found online.
The two trains included with this set run perfectly around the track -- the wheels/axles are placed at the very ends of the cars, which is absolutely necessary in design for the cars to go smoothly over the up or downward curves of hills. Otherwise, the ends of the car will catch on the track and the train will separate. We found this out when we used the big diesel train (3 piece set from Imaginarium @ Toys R Us) on the hills. While the diesel engine and the 3 axle car work fine, the 2 axle car catches because the axles are set farther in from the end. Melissa & Doug sell a very similar set and it will likely have the better design with no problems catching on the hills -- so I recommend their set over the Toys R Us one I bought.
EXCELLENT BUY, EXCELLENT TOY -- ALL the bells and whistles of the more expensive sets but at an affordable price and still a high quality set! Plus it is compatible with the big name cars and track (Thomas, Brio, etc). There are multiple manufacturers for THomas, however, and some of them have different sizes than others, so you have to watch. But if it fits on the regular size Thomas track, the cars AND the Thomas track are compatible with this set -- so very handy. (We did a lot of research into this before buying!)
The roundhouse is VERY GOOD QUALITY, and every bit as good as the Thomas one we saw in Toys R Us. Our local store has a train set (secured to a table) set up at the store for the kids to play with -- so we got a lot of ideas on setup from that, and also could have a hands on quality comparison. ALL THE PARTS to this set are good quality for a wooden set and we are absolutely, completely satisfied with this purchase.
So we recommend for the youngest engineers, that you anchor this set to a big piece of plywood or something, but just use screws and counter sink them, so they're out of the way but you can take it apart later when the child is older and can handle rearranging it and putting together the track by himself. Our little guy can do this and we have other track that he can put together and play with, but the main set is MUCH MORE FUN for him with it secured, until he's bigger and more coordinated!
We already have a little play table for him, so we made a small frame on the bottom of the trainset board to fit snuggly over the table we had and keep it from sliding or moving around. We can move this set to the floor or on the table, and even me, THE WIFE, can pick it up and move it without too much effort!
We added our customer pictures to the product images.
CHOOOOO CHOOOOOOO!

The twin boys I watch (almost 3) love this thing! They sit & play with it for an hour @ a time. The balls do fall off the track sometimes but it's no big deal they just put them back on (99% of the time it is the green ball that has a flat end that falls off, the other two included balls seem to do just fine). It's an expensive toy but we love it & it's nice to hear the wooden rolling noises & bell tinkle rather than sirens or other annoying noises. Glad i bought it!
