Haba Pyramid Review

(More customer reviews)My sons are into building things - legos, standard unit blocks and anything they can get their hands on. They do like this set and didn't even need to look at the instructions to build the outside. Because of the odd dimensions of these Haba blocks, they cannot be integrated into other structures and thus put a limit of creativity. If the dimensions are consistent with standard unit blocks, they will get taken out more often to play. Also, this set has just enough blocks to make the pyramid in the picture, so there is no way to close the pyramid's "door". Could be better, but this is the only pyramid blocks we have found...

(More customer reviews)When we first got this toy, I played with it a lot. I noticed right away that the drums would start popping off if your drumsticks hit the outside edges of the drums too much. Since I have a toddler, I knew this would be an issue. A few days after he received it, his friends came over and completely took it apart in a matter of seconds. That's when one of the other mothers got a brainstorm...
The drum parts attach to the base by small wooden pegs on elastic. You're supposed to push the pegs in so they're in a vertical position in the holes. This clearly DOES NOT work well, even though it's what is directed and is also done this way in the photo on the box. However, if you push the wood pegs ENTIRELY through the hole, they turn horizontal and act like a button so the drums don't pop off.
Once they were in, we didn't have any other problems with the structure, except that my preschooler LOVES to take the other items off all the time. It's more of a puzzle to him than a drum set, but that could just be his level of development.

Sassy Earth Brights Wooden Mushroom Clutch Rattle Review

(More customer reviews)While the product we received is not as pictured (as mentioned by other reviewers), and the "rattling" pieces don't slide around the entire ring, they do rattle and the red felt piece "crinkles" but apparently I missed the bit about the vanilla scent. You would think a toy claiming to be "natural" would rely on natural essences for a scent. It is obviously synthetic and not only do I detest the chemical smell, my baby crinkles his nose and turns his head away from it. I cut the scented piece off.

Floral Head Piece Review

It turns out that it fits an adult head, so is really too big for the 4 year old. However, she can wear it back on her head and it still works. It looks close to the picture and is relatively well made.

Green Toys Dump Truck Review

(More customer reviews)My daughter saved her allowance for this truck, and we were thrilled to find it on Amazon for 35% off the list price, so we really got a great deal on it. In fact we bought two - the other as a gift for our friends' son.
Let me say first: I love Green Toys. I love that they are a US-based company that recycles and makes really cool simple toys that are 100% safe. And I love the classic chunky-style of this dump truck.
However, I think it's ridiculous that the wheels don't roll on hardwood floors (our house is all hardwood floors, save for a couple area rugs). It's a notch better on the rugs, and outdoors in the grass. The wheels still seem reluctant to turn, even on terrain they can grip on. This seems like such an obvious design flaw. Didn't they test drive the dump truck before mass-producing it? I mean, we're talking wheels and an axle here, it's not rocket science.
We decided to keep it anyway, or rather my daughter did. It was her purchase, after all. She doesn't seem to mind terribly sliding it around indoors. It gets the most use in the sandbox anyway.
I guess if I had to buy it again, heck, I probably would... at least if it were on sale again. Who knows, we might add the recycle truck to the collection despite the fact I suspect it would have the same flaw... if it goes on sale. I guess it comes down to this: Do you want a safe toy? Or one that works? OK, I want both. Maybe I'll disassemble the thing and see if there's an easy fix.
In summation, this is definitely not Green Toys' best effort.

Green Toys Sand Play Set Review

(More customer reviews)We found these and got them 2 weeks before a vacation. Great price to begin with. This set is bullet proof. The gauge of the plastic is very thick. These will not crack like most if not all other play sets. The rake tines will give slightly but won't snap or crack. The shovel is stiff for digging. Plus they have a little nub for thumbs to help push or pull. The bucket is VERY sturdy. The castle is equally strong. We had loads of fun using this on the beach. Other children on the beach wanted to play with them. Reluctantly my girls let them ;). Cust service from Green Toys equally great. We lost the rake to the Atlantic, we got home and emailed Green Toys on how to buy a new one. They send a replacement free of charge and some little extras.
You will not be disappointed with this set, based on it construction, if you don't lose a piece or two. It will last you for a long, long time.UPDATE 5/2010
Just wanted to update this review. My girls are 3 years older and so is their play set. They are scratched up like any producted used in sand. BUT the color has not faded and NOT one crack any where. Even the rope used for the bucket is good to go. Now we left them out two winters and garaged the other one. BUT if not for the scratches the look good as new.
