(More customer reviews)I bought these blocks for my 5 and 2 year old boys at Christmas and they have played with them every day since. Despite the blocks being foam, they are very durable and the only wear is a few teeth marks! The bright colors and soft texture seem to make them irresistible. The boys' imaginations never stop coming up with new ways to use them, and they delight in the tall towers they can make that are relatively stable because of the grippy surface of the foam. These are far superior than the wood type because they are so light they don't hurt or damage the furniture, and the scale and size of the pieces makes them the perfect ramps for little cars and houses for small stuffed animals. Hours of quiet, battery-free fun - probably the best toy purchase I have ever made. A safe bet if you don't know what to get a preschooler.
January 2009: I wrote the above part of this review back in May of 2006 and I am just adding that we are on kid#3 (a girl this time) and these are still in good shape and being played with almost daily.

Fisher Price Little People - Busy Day Home Review

(More customer reviews)Bought this for daughter who does love it. But there are design issues I'd have thought would have been worked out by now. I was growing up in the 80's and Fisher Price had much nicer play houses then that were larger and had more rooms to them. This one is much differently designed, smaller, less rooms. It has sound effects to it which could be nice: phone rings, doorbell, toilet flushes. But the toilet only flushes if you RAISE the lid ????? and should flush when you lower the lid. The front door NEVER stays on. You don't even have to mess with it much like open it, you touch it and it just falls off the hinges because they didn't make them well. Overall daughter loves it (nothing to compare to) but as a parent I'm disappointed.

International Playthings Honey Bee Tree Review

(More customer reviews)Yes, this game is incredibly cute. I agree wholeheartedly that it takes way too much time to set up. By the time we get the leaves in the tree (which is no small feat - you must put insert the leaves pretty much in a specific order to get them all to fit) our 4 yr old son is bored and ready to play something else. In the few times I've been able to drag him back to the game, it takes just a few pulls on a few leaves to make the bees drop. If he happens to bump the tree - ALL the bees can fall in to the open area and fall through at once. It makes for a very irritating experience, especially for mommy! Yes, its really, really cute - but I can't say I am thrilled with the purchase. Our siamese cat has had more fun batting the bees around the tile floor...(Under our supervision, of course! Those bees are pretty small and could get lodged in his little throat!) There are definitely better games out there...

Little Tikes TotSports Easy Hit Golf Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very simple and durable golf set for toddlers. It is easy to assemble and simple to use. We got this set for our son when he was two year old, but he didn't play with it very much because his motor skills weren't developed enough to really have fun with it. He would try to hit the ball and miss it a lot, which was very frustrating for him. He likes it much more now that he is almost three and he can hit the ball more consistently in a direction of his choosing.
I would recommend this toy for toddlers at least three years old rather than the two years recommended by the manufacturer.

Dress and Dance Dora Review

(More customer reviews)Both my daughters (3 and 5) wanted this doll so I thought they would spend hours playing with it. They loved it for about 30 minutes and haven't touched it since. Also, Dora is supposed to sing a different song when you change her skirt but she rarely does unless you really push the skirt button down and keep holding it.
I recommend you save your money for something else. My girls spent more time with a Dora coloring book.

(More customer reviews)My son has been asking for this game for weeks, so we got it for him for Christmas. I admit, I thought it might be cheaply made, not to mention aggravating just by virtue of the "whacking".
The moles themselves do not pop up. Rather, a light under their helmets go off, as well as a specific sound (for the easy game). For the hard game, it's sound only.
Initially, there is a "sign in" period where you whack the mole that you want to be yours. This tells the game how many are playing (unless you chose the solo game). You are then told to listen for the sound of your particular mole. Each game, the sound is different. It could be a bird whistle, a cat's meow, a dog bark, Duh!, Yoohoo!, Yeah!, etc. You're then told to listen for the bonus sound.
You get a point when you whack your own mole, as well as when you whack your mole when the bonus sound is made. At the end of the game, you're told who won, and how many points each player got.
My son is 6, and is sometimes not quick enough. But this game is great for reflexes, hand/eye coordination, etc. It's a blast to play, and my son enjoys it, too...sometimes even requesting the hard version! (although it's even more challenging for him to play audio only). Because the sounds change every game, it teaches listening skills and keeps the game fresh.
The plastic hammers are really soft, so they won't do a whole lot of damage should your child choose to use them elsewhere! We've banged the heck out of this game so far, and have had no trouble with its performance...it works perfectly.
Highly recommended!

I also found that they pick this game up and play with it by themselves as a play set-I've never found another game that has this feature (it also makes me feel like this is a great value!). Finally, I've loved Colorforms since I was a kid, so I'm delighted that my kids love them too.

Read With Me - Giraffe's Can't Dance Review

(More customer reviews)I got this for my 6 year old nephew who was adopted from Africa. He is learning English and this is a really sweet story that happens to resonate with him particularly. He is often shy and tentative in his almost all white school and with shaky English skills. This story about a clumsy Giraffe that finds his own music to dance to is so inspiring and hopeful. My feminist sister says it would be good for any kid that feels a little bit different, and for 'normal' kids to look for 'different' kids' special talents. I like the animation which is really good, especially for a children's product. It was a crowd pleasure for everyone and it's broken into managable segments so you can play for as little as 10 minutes or as much as 2 hours. There is a fun play along dance game that brought all of us to our feet after Thanksgiving dinner. We danced for over half an hour kids and adults!
