Fisher-Price Elmo's World Talking Cell Phone Review

My husband travels quite a bit, and since I can't stand to have things just laying around broken, and I for sure won't throw anything away, I've been left to figure out how to fix things on my own. If I can do it so can you! I decided to figure out what was up with this Elmo phone once and for all. After taking it apart I found that there are two metal tabs inside the slit( in the back of the phone where you had to remove the plastic tab when you took it out of the box) and when they touch the volume of the phone is lowered. When they don't touch the phone goes back to the regular audible volume. To FIX IT : The easy option A, which doesn't require you to take anything apart, is to take the piece of plastic from the original box (the one that you had to pull out in the first place to lower the volume "for the children's safety" and to cut it so that it fits into the slit without sticking out so the kids can't pull on it. Option B is to remove 6 screws (1.upper left hand corner under antenna, 2. upper right hand corner next to slit, 3.screw holding the battery cover on, remove batteries you will find 4 and 5 there. Set all of these aside. Look on the inside of the back cover where the slit comes through You'll two small pieces of metal, the top piece screwed on with a white wire coming out. This is the last screw to be removed and #6. Remove and discard. Clip the white wire where it it saudered/ connected and you can throw away the little metal piece. It is NOT needed for the toy to operate in anyway, it was only used to lower the volume. Once you've done this you can replace the lid put the screws and batteries back in and you'll have a working and AUDIBLE Elmo Phone!!

(More customer reviews)My daughter has had this phone for about 2 yrs. It has grown with her. At 1 - she liked the lights and sounds (and could chew on the antennae without worry). At 2 - she knew what sounds came from which button in all 3 modes. Now at 3 she is listening to the words and repeating them and thinking about what it all means. I leave this in the car and it's her toy when we are on the road. I love that it has French and Spanish on it as well as English. It's never too early to introduce other languages. We had tried a few other brands before we found this one and by far this one is the best. Batteries last forever in it. This would make a perfect gift to expecting parents.

Initially, we bought it for the 3-year-old to help him learn numbers, their sequence (being able to count to 10 from memory is not the same [for a toddler] as actually knowing what number comes before other or which number is larger than the other). He still has fun with it and it helped him grasp basic math concepts. And now our 1-year-old started playing the phone as well. She likes pressing the buttons and hearing the parent message we recorded. Great buy.

Fun-2-Learn Cell Phone Review

(More customer reviews)We got this cell phone for our young toddler (I think he was 13 months at the time) in order to keep him occupied in the car when very few things did. It's one of the few things that will keep him engaged for about 10-15 minutes (which is all I can ask for with him!). Although the learning modes are clearly for older children (like learning how to key in 911 and such), he likes the interactive graphics and many different sounds he gets by pressing all the different buttons. So, it doesn't hold too much educational value for him now (he's 18 months), but definitely will when he gets older. He has throw it down in the car many many times and it hasn't damaged it at all. This phone has stayed in our car in high heat and cold temperatures and so far has resisted damage.

My husband will sit there shaking it for ten minutes, and all we will get is a couple button pushes and the battery is gone again. Perhaps we have a lemon, or perhaps the eco-battery is not all it's cracked up to be.

Because it is located in the lower right corner, any baby who plays with the phone with his right hand will inadvertently turn the toy off...repeatedly. It's just as easy to turn it on, of course, but this means you'll be listening to the toy's opening and closing musical fanfare over and over again. This will also happen if the toy is turned upside down and resting on the keypad: it will continuously turn itself on and off.
