(More customer reviews)As my kids began to outgrow their Discover Sounds kitchen, I began scouting around new kitchens. I checked out the many plastic molded kitchens, but opted to go the wood kitchen route. Of the wood kitchens, this is far and away the nicest, best equipped, and most attractive kitchen I've found. The sink is removable and can actually be filled with water. The faucet swivels, the clock hands are movable, there are two shelves in the cabinet beneath the sink for storage, two shelves in the refrigerator (in addition to the freezer compartment on top), and a white grooved shelf in the oven that serves as the removable oven rack.
There is room for lots and lots of playfood, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and small appliances. I love that the color scheme is suitable for both boys and girls, and much more appealing than the more institutional-looking wood kitchens.
The assembled kitchen is approximately 42" wide X 43" high X 16" deep (excluding handles and knobs). It took my husband and I over an hour to assemble, and as each additional piece gets attached, it locks the piece together very solidly.
There is room for multiple children to play simultaneously, as my children often do. It is a major piece of our playroom, and an integral part of my kids' day-to-day play.

Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen Review

(More customer reviews)After reading several negative reviews on this toy I thought I'd include in mine the biggest possible reason these children/parents are not enjoying it == the appropriate age to really appreciate and use this toy properly is 2+ since at this age kids can understand the concepts behind a kitchen. Our daughter has always been facinated with pots, food, kitchen sounds, etc., and this adorable little version is just perfect for her as she learns what sounds and sights you find at home. It is less than 2 ft. high, so kids have to bend down to play, or just sit down in front, which is not a problem for most kids once they get really involved in playing. The make believe milk, cheese and egg are cute and they have their storage places inside the fridge and cabinet. There is even a separately sold 4-pack of items including a pan, pepper shaker, cordless phone and measuring spoons. One criticism is that there is no place to hang the measuring spoons or cordless phone, so they disappeared rather quickly, but Little Tikes sent us a full replacement pack FREE OF CHARGE within two weeks.
My daughter adores the sounds this kitchen makes: bubbling, popping, and ringing for the stove, microwave and frying pan. It will tip over if your kids lean on it, but with supervised playtime, this is a great little item which stores neatly and quickly, and should keep them happy long enough for you to at least tidy up in your own REAL kitchen.

LEGO DUPLO Bob the Builder - Scoop and Lofty at the Building Yard Review

(More customer reviews)While my son loves Scoop and Lofty and plays with them a ton, there is basically nothing else to this set, as the pieces you are left won't build much of anything. You can see on the box that you are only able to barely build the facade of a house with a window and two roof pieces, and a frame of a building. You at least get a caravan/little house with a door, windows, and stairs with the Travis set, my pick for the best of the series. Even the Muck set that comes with the recycling bins and chute offers more play value.
With all the vehicles, you can't play heavy with them, as the pieces usually pop off. This set is very pricey, so I would only get it if your child has to have these two characters, becauase that's all you are paying for. It should have come with a little something better to build, especially for the price.

Automoblox T9 Truck Green by Automoblox Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Automoblox truck for my grandson's 4th birthday. It has an instant hit. He liked that he could take the truck apart and put together another combination.
The truck body is actually 3 parts, the front end, the truck cab(body) and the truck bed, joined together by very easy to use bright green plugs. The truck puts together as shown in the images, or the cab can be eliminated to make a cute little "buggy".
This toy is very sturdy and appears to be well designed and engineered. I'll be checking with my grandson to see how well his Automoblox truck is holding up to daily play. The Automoblox information says that each Automoblox model is interchangeable with other models. So, if this model is holding up well, I will be ordering at least one of the other models for Christmas.
Caution for those with smaller children who still like to eat their toys; there are wooden people who plug into the inside of the truck cab, the toy loses very little play appeal if you tuck those away until the eating urge passes.
The only downside I can think of is that the price was a bit high. However, it does come in a very sturdy cardboard box that seems designed to create the image of an heirloom toy. I can see that happening. All in all, if the toy holds up as it appears it is designed to do, that is money well spent.

V.Smile Interactive Learning Handheld Game Review

(More customer reviews)My kids love the V Smile system, so when I saw the V Smile Pocket and knew we were going to be taking a long car trip to Canada - I knew this would be a worthwhile investment! Using the A/V jacks in our entertainment system in the car, the kids were able to play using the 10 inch screen in the car with sound from the car stereo system. We've got about a dozen cartridges at this point, so there is something for everyone. Even the not-quite-two year old enjoys watching the screen as her 4 older siblings play! We're still waiting for the AC adapter to become available, but the batteries seem to be working fine for now. The screen is crystal clear, and the colors are great. Since my kids are new to the hand-held game experience, it took a little practice to get used to the joystick/thumb control - but even the 5 year old had it down in no time! Enthusiastically recommended!
Update: The above was written on August 9, 2005, and someone wanted to know if I still felt the same way now that some time has passed - glad to respond! We did have a problem with a second unit that we purchased (with 5 kids, 1 unit wasn't going to cut it!), but the company was quick to replace the faulty unit with a brand new one. Today is March 4, 2007, and our V.smile Pockets are still going! Occasionally they will not start up, but usually pressing the reset in the back takes care of it. Another thing my kids discovered is that sometimes blowing some air into the cartridge or into the slot in the machine where the cartridge goes will make everything function normally. Can't explain why - can only guess that perhaps a bit of dust might be removed by the blowing. And we get plenty of use out of the AC adapter that did eventually become available. Hope this will satisfy your curiosity - and yes, we are still happy!

Lego Duplo Legoville - Straight Tracks - 6 Pieces Review

(More customer reviews)It is great that you can buy these train track pieces in smaller sets like this, but buyer beware...they are 1/4th of this price if you order directly from Lego (shipping much cheaper also). But as for the actual product, they work with all of the Lego Duplo cars that I have, not just the Thomas train sets...which can help you build a nice little chugga chugga choo choo set for your little one to play with for a lot less than the Thomas sets.

LeapFrog Leapster Learning Game Scholastic I Spy Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this thinking it would be like the books or our "I Spy Fantasy" CD-ROM for the computer, but it is nothing like either of these. There is one game choice that is actually an "I Spy" classic game, however, it's limited to 24 levels, and that's it. It repeats each time, so, if played often, it quickly becomes old. Another is strictly a matching game, set up like the Frogger game from the "old days" --moving pieces from the bottom of the screen to their match at the top. Don't get me wrong, my kids enjoy the game. My oldest (8) found it very easy, but it didn't hold his attention for as long as I thought it would. My youngest (4) really enjoys playing it and has no difficulty maneuvering though the games at all, although he tends to stay on the matching games. It's definitely a game he will "grow" with -the older kids, probably not so much. All in all, a decent game.

At first we were very disappointed because the volume was too low and the sensitivity didn't seem right just like the other reviewers describe. I thought I had a defective product but as a last resort I decided to visit the web site... I found that there is a parental volume switch inside the battery compartment that is set to 'low' by default ... reset it and solved that problem. Then I also found a better explanation for how to set the sensitivity than you get in the brief piece of paper that comes with the product. You have to set the dial to 10 and tap once next to the device. If the lights flash continuously after the tap, then the sensitivity is too high and you adjust it down one notch and repeat. It is important to set the sensitivity exactly right for your floor conditions since it senses movement by vibration on the floor. After we got it set right, it has really worked very well and both my 3 and 1 year olds have great fun with it.

(More customer reviews)This toy gets 4 stars because after 1 day my daughter broke out the wooden divider, and the extensive pieces.
My daughter loves this toy! It is one of her favorite play foods, and I am about sick of pizza! There are quite a few pieces to the set and I would not recommend this for a household where elements of toys are easily destroyed or lost. The velcro attaches easily.
This is a great toy to begin teaching counting and fractions. We also own the Cutting Food Box by Lights, Camera, Interaction. We were initially introduced to these great toy products by my aunt who teaches violin. She uses these toys to explain musical notation and fractions. The utilization of this toy for introductory math has been invaluable for teaching our daughter. Sometimes we don't realize how much she understands these concepts. The parts hold up extremely well to the 2 1/2 year old age group, but I must reiterate - these are not for a family that doesn't not keep up with parts to games or toys. It is also a toy that is best used with hands-on adult expaination. The most educational experience can be derived that way (I guess, as with all things in life.)
What is especially fun is when she mixes the 2 toys together and I get a slice of pizza with a carrot or watermelon slice on it.
