(More customer reviews)My nearly 3-year-old daughter received this as a gift - toy tools were requested because of her interest in Daddy's real ones. This set does not disappoint. From her "Oh my gosh!" upon opening the gift to playing with it every day it has been a winner. Daddy is especially impressed too.
The pieces are sturdy. They come apart and hold together where they are supposed to. The tape measure only allows measuring up to 24 inches, but it retracts well from being pulled all the way out. The drill drills "holes" in the piece of "wood", and it works Forward and Backward to screw and un-screw the nuts and bolts. The handles come off the two screw drivers to allow the phillips and flat head to attach to the working drill, allowing another way to work the screws into and out of the "wood". The hammer is solid but light, so it works well on the plastic nails but can't hurt any more than any other toy if used against someone. ;) The wrench and pliers have yet to see much use, but both seem like they will hold up to the use. The tool belt can't tighten enough to stay on my daughter's skinny waist, so it is sitting in the tool box waiting for another day. However, we fit all the pieces nicely onto it when trying it out the first day. The case itself is another sturdy piece. It holds all the pieces with extra room (we took the white plastic packaging out so all the pieces are tossed in there together).
This is a very inclusive set of tools for younger kids - boys or girls. I can see it being interesting up to at least age 5. Overall, a very good bet for a toddler/preschooler tool set.

Step2 Real Projects Workshop Review

(More customer reviews)This little workshop has got to be one of the cutest toys! I bought it for my daycare - but my 17 month old daughter loves playing with it too! The screwdriver "works" with batteries, and it comes with several other tools. I also love all of the foam "wood" pieces. Although my daughter doesn't understand what to do with them, she still thoroughly enjoys playing with them. She also really likes putting things in the pullout drawer. Assembly is pretty quick - although the holes are not pre-drilled for the 4 big screws. But pre-drilling them myself was no problem.
The ONLY downfall is that the foam blocks don't stay together that well. They can be put together, but are easily pulled apart through light playing. But overall, I would not say that's a big deal. I'm sure kids will enjoy playing with it no matter what!

The straps that hold the tools are starting to come apart a little but that might be due to the way he removes the tools. Overall I am very happy with the product.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my 2 year old Bob the Builder fan. It is difficult to use the toolbox to hammer into, but if you turn it on it's side your builder can hammer all day long. It's a little tight at first, but after you hammer a couple of nails and pull them out it gets easier. I like this toolbox because its a little more difficult for little hands. My son has to really think about hitting the nails and turning the wrench and screwdriver, but he can do it. This set looks real and my son loves that. If he sees his daddy using tools he will go get his tools so he can help. Some kids might get frustrated with it, but I think that it's teaching fine motor skills.

Mega Brands CAT Workbench Review

(More customer reviews)My son received this toy a few months after his first birthday and enjoyed having a base to build on that he could stand at. Early on we removed the 'screw' and 'nail' included because he was into putting everything in his mouth and we were concerned with choking. We also did not put on the stickers for at least a year because he would have just pulled them all off. Those two items aside, we have had no issues with this toy and my 3.5 year old still enjoys playing with it.
It was his first 'tool set' as well as connect-able building blocks and his play with the toy has evolved as he has aged. Early on it was all about mouthing everything (wash in a lingerie/net bag in top rack of dishwasher for easy cleaning) and putting the simple single pieces together. We were mildly concerned about the screwdriver at first but it never proved to be a cause for alarm, I could see how it might be an unintentional 'weapon' though for a young child around other children though so that is something to keep in mind (might want to put it away until the child(ren) is a little older).
It is nice that the base can hold all the pieces (and will fit more pieces as well) and the pieces themselves are big enough to make cleanup easy. A fun toy for a toddler, especially if they want to have a 'tool bench' like Daddy (or Mommy!) that will grow with them.

Now I just have to say, get your own 'measure' (as he calls it) and there is no more fighting. It's safe and is long enough that he feels he is actually helping daddy. The block fit together well and the assembled shapes hold together well. The variety of shapes is not the greatest (no circles, for example) but they do provide a lot of fun.

Fisher-Price Drillin' Action Tool Set Review

(More customer reviews)I'm not into clutter, but my 17 mth old son LOVES to help his daddy with projects in the garage. So, we bought him this drill which is so close to the real deal. HE LOVES IT. Plays with it every single day! Even my husband has told all his friends with youngsters they need this drill!!! It is great for drilling, but also fine motor skill screwing in the screws by hand, and pushing/pulling the nails. My sister is an occupational therapist and she thinks it's a great toy too! I still don't see how this toy is only $13! It's worth every single penny! One drawback, the drill bits do go astray... may be a good idea to buy two of these at this price! ;-)

(More customer reviews)This is an adorable tool bench. It is so much better than the wooden tool bench I played with as a child. Elmo sings a song at the push of a button. The saw (Bert and Ernie) and the drill (cookie monster), cracks jokes. When the nails or the bolts are driven/screwed into the bench it makes appropriate noises. Adults seem to be enamored with this toy as well. My father-in-law couldn't stop playing with it; long after my son went to bed. There is a tool belt that you can purchase separately, however I would not suggest buying it. It is cute and there is a space for it on the tool bench, however it also comes with a hammer and screwdriver. It seems unnecessary to have two of each. Elmo's song does seem to be a bit loud, but you can push the same button to end the song. Overall, I think this was a great purchase.

(More customer reviews)This toy feel apart on us not once but three times. First the head fell off the hammer the very first time my son used it. My husband thought that they had just not glued it well enough and just got out the wood glue to fix it no soon then we gave it to my son again and one of the sides fell off. My son is a typical little boy but he is not hard on his toys and was not using this in an unusual way. He has a similar toy at the montessori school that he goes to and loves it, but this is just too frustrating for him. We will be returning this toy and complaining to the manufacturer. It has the potential of being a 4 star toy if the thing would just stay together.

(More customer reviews)This is of the same excellent quality we have come to expect from Melissa & Doug toys. 100% all wood construction, very sturdy and hopelessly fun! This mom was able to assemble it all by herself in 45 minutes and handy she is not. My son loves this work bench and I love that there is no noise, batteries, or electronic doo-dads, just pure old-fashioned imaginative fun. I did give it 5 stars but my only complaint is I wish this toy was made in the U.S.A. For the price paid it seems the company should be able to employ American workers and I would gladly pay more for them to do so.
