Elevation Track Pack - Straights Review

Elevation Track Pack - Straights
Average Reviews:

This is a good set to add more hills and bridges to your geotrax. My son has 3 different sets, but very little elevation stands. It's a pricey set, like all other geotrax, but I think it really adds to your tracks. My son loves having hills all over his track, so this was the perfect addition to his collection.

Calico Critters Friesian Cow Family Review

Calico Critters Friesian Cow Family
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love Calico Critters, and the Friesian Cow Family is another really cute set. The cow family are black and white, flocked play figures with removeable clothes. My daughters like to use them in their dollhouses instead of dolls. Each family consists of a Mom, Dad, Brother and Sister. The arms and legs move, and the head turns. They are well made, and lots of fun.
The Friesian Cows are all white with black patches, pink ear insides,a pinky/peach muzzle and shiny black eyes. They have no tails or udders, Dad has horns. Dad is wearing light green overalls with black buttons, a blue and white checked shirt and a red scarf. Mom is wearing a yellow dress with lace collar trim, a navy bow and an attached apron with lace trim. Brother has more clothes than the typical Critter boy. He is wearing light blue suspender pants and a multi-colored striped shirt with green collar. Sister has a orange and white checked dress with lace trim and black decorative buttons. All the pants are slip on and the dresses and shirts have velcro closures. Mom and Dad are about 3 1/2" tall, and the kids are 2 1/2".
The Calico Critters scale is somewhere between 1:12 and 1:24. They fit in all our dollhouses, including some of the older, smaller Fisher-Price houses. My daughters have had Critters for about 5 years now, and I love the way they play with them. It is pure, imaginative play. They set up a town of houses, and create a story. I like that while each family has a little back story, there is no prescribed way to play with them. The Critters are a little pricier than other dollhouse figures out there, but they are high quality and have great play value. When my daughters have friends over, our Critters are usually one of the first toys taken out. Partly because they are so fun, and partly because not that many of my girls' friends have them. I think because they aren't available in mass-market stores or advertised heavily, they aren't as well known. If you're considering giving a family as a gift, you can't go wrong - you definitely will have a hit on your hands.
The only thing I don't absolutely love about the cow family is their color. Our set is still new and looks great, but in my experience, the black and white figures (like the Dalmation Dogs) are the only Calico Critters that end up looking dingy. The white flocking picks up lint, and if your child plays with them, they will start to look dirty.
Bottom Line - Another Really Cute Calico Critters Family

Thomas the Train: Easy Go R/C Thomas Review

Thomas the Train: Easy Go R/C Thomas
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Excellent toy! My 4 year old twins enjoy the Thomas remote train. The remote is easy to handle and only has two buttons, forward and backward, however the train can go in circles when pressing the back button. The train makes a toot toot sound right before the train stops. Also plays the instrumental Thomas theme song, taught my son with Autism how to hum the song. No wires, sturdy, works indoors and outside, batteries last a long time, great price for a remote toy. Highly recommend!

Thomas is ready for action with this easy-to-use remote control train. The easy to hold remote sends Thomas forward and backwards. Press and hold forward arrow button to drive train forward. Alex 36 X 36 Vinyl Padded Playmat
Average Reviews:

This playmat is excellent. Great graphics, easy to wipe clean and my son loves playing with his cars on it. I love that it folds up into a nice tote for toys or in my son's case all his cars and accessories. Please note, at first it's very difficult to figure out how to fold it into the tote but once you finally get it, it's easy going forward. My only wish was that the handles on the tote were longer but either way, it's fabulous!

GeoTrax Rail & Road System - Rocky Falls Tunnel Review

GeoTrax Rail and Road System - Rocky Falls Tunnel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The entire line of GeoTrax Road 'n' Rail toys is great for kids ages 2 1/2 and up. They promote imaginative play and creative design, they're attractive and solidly-constructed, etc. However, while some of the add-ons are better conceived than others, the Rocky Falls Tunnel is among the best.
The set consists of a hard plastic arched junction and two flexible fabric lengths of tunnel. These tunnel pieces are detachable so that they can be used separately or as part of this set. However, when they're not attached to the main base, it looks unfinished, i.e. you can definitely tell that pieces have been removed. Also, when using the fabric tunnel pieces in any capacity, they're very picky about curves - the train will oftentimes get stuck in the tunnel if it's not used on a straight section of track. So, it's best use is with a T-intersection in the middle and straight tracks coming out of all sides. The set unfortunately includes no track pieces.
The set's operation is controlled by the train passing through, but not in the traditional GeoMotion way. When the train passes through, it trips a light sensor under the archway which triggers the water wheel as well as some cool sound effects. The sounds include both train and nature effects; the set randomly selects which sounds to play with each pass-through. The set also occasionally throws out a random nature sound even when the train isn't coming through, which adds fun atmosphere to the overall landscape. The sounds are well-recorded and volume is just right.
When completely assembled, the set is on the large side (just shy of the roundhouse or Mile High Mountain base for comparison), so plan on your GeoTrax layout growing when you add the Falls. Overall, this add-on is a lot of fun and the versatility that it offers makes it a great addition to anyone's GeoTrax collection.
PROS
* Motion-sensor trigger for sounds and actions works very well
* Sound effects are fun and pleasant
* The detachable fabric tunnel pieces also fit into each other for use elsewhereCONS
* Flexible fabric tunnels are picky when used with curved tracks
* When the fabric tunnels are removed, the main piece looks unfinished - why not include hard plastic caps that look like the rocks?

Now kids can add a flexible tunnel to their GeoTrax Railway, along with a working water wheel! Add an RC train to Rocky Falls Tunnel, and through the magic of GeoMotion, the water wheel turns and sound effects (nature sounds, train sounds and water sounds) happen! (You can also activate the water wheel by hand.)The tunnel is made of expandable fabric, so you can set it up different ways. It can cover 6" straight track, 6" curved track and 9" curved track. Includes mountain tunnel with working water wheel, two expandable fabric tunnels (expand up to 28") and two railroad crossing gates (RC train sold separately). We got the ramps to be use with our basic GeoTrax rail and road system pack. The were greater than we expected, as different hights of ramps can be built and a variety of train systems can be built in conjunction to the tracks we already had. Our 2 1/2 year old has been playing every single day with it for almost two months :-) He is also able to built new tracks by himself.

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Sodor Chicken Cars

My son wanted these from the time he saw them in a Thomas the Train catalog. He finally got them for Christmas and LOVES them. They really are adorable. The egg "cargo" is removable; and, when you slide the door on the car, you hear the chickens clucking. Too cute. Amazon's price is much better than any of the stores, too. We're not into buying all the cars to go with our train set, but this is definitely a great set to have!

National Products 6V Battery Operated Talking Train with Track Review

National Products 6V Battery Operated Talking Train with Track
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I want to say that I was very hesitant about purchasing this train, but I saw it on sale and thought I would take a chance. I'm glad I did, the train is very stable on the tracks. It makes alot of fun sounds that are very realistic. I have 3 children with the oldest at 60lbs and my other 2 are no more than 45lbs. All 3 rode the train and it was not a difference because the weight limit is 44bls. I think the track is rathter big and I'm pleased with this purchase. The seat is very roomy and your little one can tuck a teddy bear or a favorite toy in the extra car. NICE! MY KIDZ LUV IT.
Also, I research alot of Trains before I purchase this one, the Sante Fe train was too small and a little flimsy! I wanted to get Thomas the Train but it was very hard to find and a little too pricey for me. So once I saw this one, but could not find one review on it on the internet.... I just decided to take a chance. I'm just glad I did.. My kids are having a blast. I hope this review help you if you are looking into buying a train for your little one. I paid 99.00 (jcpenney w/ discount code) it's was well worth it.

Little conductors can drive this train along the tracks, or use it off the tracks as a foot-to-floor ride-on. This Talking Train has forward and reverse gears, a 19' track, electronic sounds and an auto brake system. Fun noises add to the adventure, with phrases like "All aboard!" and "Stop!" and sounds like the "ting-ting-ting" of the railroad crossing sign, the rumbling engine, and a whistle blowing. Rechargeable 6V battery and charger are included. Maximum weight is 44 lbs. Measures 34"L x 12"W x 16.75"H.

GeoTrax Working Town Train Railway Playset Review

GeoTrax Working Town Train Railway Playset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this train set! A friend gave this to our two year old son for Christmas and out of several different train sets, this has turned out to be by far the best. It is the most interesting and easiest to use, and with the very easy-to-use remote control and cool sounds it maintains interest for all ages.
Ours has had 9 months of not-so-gentle use and is still going strong. The batteries have only been replaced twice (the second time was just last week) and it's had plenty of time in the toybox with batteries still in there (we hear the trains beep once in a while as they get jostled, but we have never bothered to remove them) Sorry the other reviewer has had such poor experience with the trains, but we have had no such problems. (We bought another train in January, and it, too has run great - we have yet to replace the batteries on that one) We don't pull it out every day, but it has definitely gotten a good bit of use.
With regard to the tracks and other *stuff* in this particular set - all fantastic. This comes with enough tracks and things to do a variety of configurations. I love that it has a 'mountain' with a bridge so the train can go over and under. That is also great if you get the elevated track to expand it (that's what I would get next if you want to expand after this set) The windmill and factory (or whatever it is) are really fun. The train can make them move, or your child can turn knobs by hand to make parts move. Nice for promoting curiosity, problem solving and a bit of basic physics:) My son (almost three now) especially loves the windmill. He likes to remove the wind catchers and use them... um, creatively... For small children you do need to realize that there are parts of this that will likely be used as hammers and 'shooters' etc. BUT the tracks are easy to put together, and generally stay together very well. It really is good for 2 1/2 and up, as the manufacturer says. Our 11 month old daughter LOVES to watch the trains go around too... she also likes to sit on the track and move things around, which frustrates brother and dad, but it's durable enough to survive a bit of rough treatment and I really don't worry about it hurting her (although there are some small pieces which are potential choking hazards)
I also really appreciate the details on the pieces. Straight tracks have little wrenches that have fallen off the trains (or perhaps left behind by workmen?) A tiny squirrel here, a piece of rope there... ALL the GeoTrax seem to have these small details in the molds, and the more I look the more I find. My son was the first to see a little owl looking out of one of the trees in a set we just got recently. They are the same colors as the rest of the pieces, but my husband and I are thinking about painting some of them. This is an aspect that really adds to the imaginative and dramatic play qualities of these toys.
If you like them, these sets are more than a bit addictive... Mom and Dad keep wanting to do more and more elaborate set ups, so beware how much space could be taken up. So far we have been impressed and happy with all except for the "Workin' Roundhouse", but young kids really don't *need* anything more than this set and maybe an extra train (to make it easier to share with friends, sibs or dad) to be really happy and creative with their play.
I recommend going to the Fisher-Price website to check out the details on what the different sets do and see detailed close-up pictures. Although none of the sets is all that expensive by itelf (given the quality, etc.) you can spend a lot of money if you get everything, so make sure you really know about what you are getting and that it is really what you want.
