(More customer reviews)My daughter was really excited to get this game for her four year birthday. It was fun, however, the catepillar moves pretty fast. It was difficult for my 9 year old, myself, and especially my four year old, to get the marbles on. I wish there were different levels, like a slower one, for the younger kids. Overall, I guess ok product, but I'd increase the appropriate age level on the box, or implement the different levels idea.

It is very simple and does not take too long to play a round: pull the lever and one piece shoots out of the castle (fun) and if it matches your game board you keep it and if not you put it back in the castle top. Great first game, box says 3+ but 2 year olds could easily play this game with supervision. I think it is a bit overpriced, but there is not really a great selection of easy beginner games available. (We have the Lucky Ducks game - fun but noisy! And we have Hi Ho Cherry-O - fun but 40 tiny plastic cherries!)

Don't Break the Ice Review

(More customer reviews)Games for small children are notoriously hard to come by. "Don't Break the Ice" is one of the few available and a classic in its own right.
My young son loves this game and we play all sorts of variations including moving the main ice piece that holds the bear to different places so we can experiment with the "physics" of the game. (So there is a true educational element.) We also try to put the ice pieces back in the frame using different patterns of insertion. This helps kill the time factor in getting the game pieces ready to play.
With its minimum of rules anyone can pick this game up in a minute. It's fun and can be played by "kids" of all ages. Given its low price, it's a no miss. Even if little children get more fun out of making the bear fall than not, so what? Think of it as a more versatile "hammer & peg bench" toy.
There are some durability issues. If one of the tabs that hold the ice breaks, you are out of luck. The frame consists of two pieces that slide together and the connection is prone to breakage. Still, at this price point it's a lot easier to replace than many of the fragile toys that cost far more. In fact you could buy every toy in the Milton Bradley "Cootie" line and still be under the cost of just one other plastic toy.
A good bet for a good price.

I was amazed when I first saw it but then became a little disappointed when I read it didn't "transform". However, I think this is only for decoration or to keep it as a collector's item. It's tall, durable; when you press a button he speaks and says: "It's time to stop some Decepticons", "I am Optimus Prime!", "Autobots, transform and roll out!", "Fire!" and one more line I still haven't figured out yet, since my mother tongue is not English. Interestingly, when he says these lines, you can see his eyes turning blue.Also, if you press a button he fires his right fist, and then you can put it back again. He has a gun or something like that on his left arm, which you can press and there's a light and sounf effect, which I find very cool. All in all, I love this toy. Good for kids and grown-ups. I love how it looks! My friends have seen it and they love it! Here in my country it costs more than 30 dollars, so you people have it at a good price. Don't miss it!

(More customer reviews)I have a 4 year old and 1 year old and they love this toy. Cheap batteries don't last in this toy, you need the super high quality ones. As for butterflies not coming out, it works just fine with new batteries. You may have to bend the wings out a bit. They come folded in one direction, just flip them the other way, so they open up and look more like butterflies. The trunk stays up if you bring it up manually after turning it on and it will stay up even after turning it off. Don't use it on soft carpet because the unit will not turn on that way. You can solve that problem by placing a book underneath, though. My only recommendation is that they include more butterflies.
UPDATE:
My oldest is now 8. The kids still enjoy this toy at the grandparents' house. It has lastes many years and both my children and my niece and nephew enjoy it. The trunk is getting worn but I'd say we've gotten our money's worth.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my five year old and wish that I hadn't. The instructions are even confusing! The air hockey part is ok but the pinball doesn't really work that well. The air is not very strong and the puck gets stuck a lot. Also the goal is intermittent. Sometimes it wont even acknowledge that you got a goal, then sometimes it will go off just from having the puck go by it. Also there is really annoying music that plays the entire time the game is on. It would be better if there was a volume for it. For the price it is not worth your money!!!!

He has very few toys that he likes as much as his matchbox cars, but even the matchbox cars run around and around the track, which makes him giggle! It seems sturdy so far and has a handle for easy carrying. The 2 included cars store inside the toy, which is nice. The figure 8 spinning turns on by a large red button and lasts about 30 seconds, so it's easy for him to operate without help. He's also figured out how to *bop* the car to start it down the track. It is a little loud, but it has an on/off button and you can probably tape over the speaker to quiet it a little. Overall, it's a big hit in our house!

(More customer reviews)...there are several good reasons why "Candy Land" is the first board game children learn to play:
First, the game does not require children know how to read. They do not even need to know their numbers as they do in "Chutes and Ladders." Movement is based on a child being able to recognize colors and symbols. What could be easier than that?
Second, the game is based on luck (or chance or divine intervention or however you want to characterize it), which means it is a great equalizer. This is a game where a kid has the same chance of winning as their parents, older siblings, grandparents, babysitters or whoever. Children are not going to be interested in playing a game they cannot win, which is why "Candy Land" is where they begin instead of "Monopoly" or "Trivial Pursuit."
Third, the game teaches the basic skills of board games. The hardest lesson kid have to learn with this game is to...take turns. Yes, this might be one of the first times in their young lives when kids are confronted with the regiment of structure that will afflict them the rest of their lives. But from board games like "Candy Land" to sports like baseball, structure and rules are a basic consideration. Strategy and tactics come later, but learning to take turns comes first (and I could argue is a basic lesson in civil behavior).
Therefore, I would respectfully submit that "Candy Land" remains the ideal choice for the first board game you play with your children. Just pick a card, move to the appropriate square, and proceed to have a great life.

(More customer reviews)We received this game as a gift and discovered that this version of Memory is different from the original in one very important and disappointing way. While there are as many cards as the original version, the vast majority of the cards look the same: pink, purple, and pale blue ponies with slight variations in the colors of the manes. There are a few other objects, such as ladybugs, flowers, and butterflies, but there are also near-duplicates of each of those. For example, there is one ladybug pair with a bit of pink gingham background, and then another pair with the same ladybug and a pale green gingham background. Overall, the amount of similarity between the cards makes this an extremely difficult and tiresome game for all but the most devoted (and knowledgable) fans of My Little Pony. This version tips the balance between game and marketing gimmick, and the game loses out to an advertising ploy directed at toddlers and preschoolers. I'd highly recommend the original version instead.

The idea is to hide the egg under the little ducks, spin them around and then, listening for the quacking sound the hidden egg makes, guess which duck is sitting on that egg. We followed the instructions and pulled the plastic tab out of the supplied plastic egg, but it only quacks if you shake it vigorously in your hand. The little device that makes it quack when you set it on the tray never worked. We go ahead and hide and try to find the egg anyway, but not having it quack sort of misses the whole point and greatly lessens the "fun" value of this game. Too bad.

The toy I remembered moved forward when you bounced on it, as you bounced it also made a noise that I can only describe as 'a playing card in the bicycle spokes' sound.
This toy does not move forward, nor does it make sounds. Up and down are the only things it contributes to playtime. My 18 month old likes it every now and then to bounce on, but other than that he still prefers the push truck, complete with noise for $[...] at Wal-Mart.

(More customer reviews)The replay value of the game isn't that great. My nearly three year old had trouble getting the frog to "hop" very high, and thus got frustrated easily. When I played with him he would be interested for a moment, but really the "game" aspect of the toy is not that great - the real excitement is in launching the frog. Of course, if you can't launch the frog there isn't much point to playing. Even my weight stomping down on the device didn't give Froggio much air time.

Play-doh Case of Colors Review

(More customer reviews)Though the fun, durability and educational value of this product are all very good or better, I did want to emphasize one thing for potential purchasers of this product. When I received this item from Amazon (intended as a gift for a friend's four-year-old daughter), I was pretty disappointed that there were NO cans of blue but TWO cans of hot pink Play Doh in the set.
The Amazon description DOES include a disclaimer for the potential variation of colors in the set, so I'm absolutely not faulting them for not alerting consumers to this deficiency. It's just that, well, I didn't think that it would happen to me (who ever does?), so please DO be aware that they issue this disclaimer for good reason. It's not the end of the world, and I'm sure that the recipient won't think twice about the absence of blue Play Doh in her new, "ten-color" set (such as it is!), but it keeps me from being 100% satisfied with the product.
While I'm at it, I should also add that these are NOT full-size cans of Play Doh - they appear to be approximately half the size of the cans in regular sets. I did not see that information anywhere in the Amazon description (it might be there, but if it is, it wasn't in a conspicuous place), and it's a point worth mentioning somewhere. If you think that you're getting a good deal by getting 10 full-size cans for eight bucks, you are getting nothing of the sort. Better Play Doh values can be found elsewhere on the site, so you might want to keep looking for them if, like me, you're generally the type who likes to get her money's worth.
